Anyone watching the Leafs game?

McMann gets a major and game for a perfectly good hit. Players are constantly making themselves vulnerable to the big hit but risk it, it seems. It's a dangerous gamble.
I’m at the game. I can understand why it was a boarding but it did seem like the guy could have protected himself better.

perfectly clean hit? in what universe is hitting a player in a vulnerable position from behind a clean hit?

That's an illegal check all day, every day.
What exactly is illegal about it? I put myself in McMann's position and I don't see what else he could have done once he was committed to hitting the guy. He wasn't against the boards. His elbows were down. It wasn't from behind and it wasn't a hit to the head.
In my mind it was a hard hit but it was unfortunate that the guy went into the boards awkwardly after the hit. That's all I'm gonna say. It's water under the bridge.

The part where Mintyukhov's head hit the dasher. It wasn't dirty and I don't think it was intentional but that's a boarding major in 2024 every day of the week.

Boarding

A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or dangerously. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.
There is an enormous amount of judgment involved in the application of this rule by the referees. The onus is on the player applying the check to ensure his opponent is not in a defenseless position and if so, he must avoid or minimize contact. However, in determining whether such contact could have been avoided, the circumstances of the check, including whether the opponent put himself in vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the check or whether the check was unavoidable can be considered. This balance must be considered by the referees when applying this rule.

Lol these guys don't give a f*** and I get it. I can't imagine having to tell my wife and child we're not going to San Diego because Dad has to fly out of country to work some OT during our scheduled vacation.

Guy is a legend.

People want to be named All-Stars or Pro Bowlers infinitely more than actually be in the things. People look forward to time off, having to instead faux play rather than relax is always a worse option. I'm sure future him will appreciate the pay bump being an #-time All-Star entails, though.

Does anyone else think it’s kind of pathetic that the Ducks are down with us in the standings? What would you even say they’re missing? They have a goalie, a 1C, a few good D. They are having a pathetic season.

It’s a lot but Matthews and Nylander were the two they absolutely had to get done. Now that they’ve (likely) got both locked up they should probably be fairly selective about how high they’re willing to go with Marner

Just sayin:
There's no room in hockey for cheap shot artists.

Main criticism is that he doesn't stand up and answer the Bell for the hits. As Bieksa says, it ends the same with him all the time, with Cousins down on the ice in a turtle position never squaring up.
At some point, his teammates must get tired of coming to defend him.

As for the Ducks, they have missed the PO since 2019. Had zero defensive structure under Eakins. Not going to turn that around over night. Started off well in the first 16 games or so, but in the past 20, it's been ugly. Young talent is there, but they need to develop it properly.

Will need to pay to get good quality veterans to help the kids along. Guys who can still play. Not like Buffalo adding Erik Johnson and retaining Okposo who are both past their best days. Need vets who can contribute well enough to have their voice mean something.
