This isn't the NHL though. This is some second-rate pro league in England. Millions of dollars aren't on the line. These guys make peanuts. This is exactly the league you should be pressing charges in, when guys cross the line like this.

This is not unprecedented, either. Players have been charged with crimes for on-ice actions before.
So if millions of dollars are on the line it's alright to commit assault? You're a professional or you aren't.

McSorely in like what 99?

No. I mean, that's why the NHL sucks so badly at this. The NHLPA plays a big part in keeping suspensions and fines laughably low, because of how much money is at stake. It's just a joke really.

McSorely was 1999. And I believe he was found guilty of assault. Bertuzzi was, as well. I think a guy in Italy went to jail when he slashed a guy in the chest and killed him.

Bertuzzi got eighty hours of community service for ruining a guys career. He was punching a dude from behind and drove his neck into the ice. McSorely got assault and forced into retirement for blasting a dude in the head with a weapon clearly on purpose. Got eighteen months probation.

This dude is facing 2-10 years in prison for a charge that a halfway decent lawyer is laughing out of court.

My point is saying maybe we should be involving the Judicial system is crazy. Innocent people go to jail. Murderers go free.

What we've got sucks but it's better than the alternative.

He hasn't even been charged yet. They are investigating.

I've watched the collision a whole bunch of times, and his leg motion still makes absolutely no sense to me. And there's a clip or two of him in the past where he sticks his leg out in a very similar manner.

Manslaughter doesn't require intent. It requires recklessness that results in death. I don't think his leg coming up was even a remotely natural or normal reaction to the sequence of events I witnessed. I'm not alone. I don't know any hockey players at all that think it was normal. Especially when you've seen him throw his leg out in the past. He was sticking his leg out, like he has done multiple times in the past, and f***ed up. And someone died as a result.

If I'm playing hockey at Johnny's, and some f***ing lunatic swings his stick at my head, I'm pressing charges. Full f***ing stop. Because it's assault with a deadly weapon, and being on the ice playing a sport doesn't negate that fact.

Johnny's have a contact league I don't know about?

Colorado has apparently made it their mission to humble top draft picks this year. Must be bummed they don't get a shot at Fantilli until March

Karlsson on track for another monster season. The Penguins moved (almost) all their bad contracts to acquire Erik Karlsson and the only worthwhile asset they gave up was a lottery protected 1st round pick.

That Dubas guy… he’s good.

Seems wide open in the East. I was high on Carolina to start the season but their goaltending has been yikes.
I think we'll get an awesome Devils vs Pens series (in the second round, BOO) but yeah I think it's wide open in the East. Gotta see how things with Toronto, NYR, and Carolina shake out as well

Just watchrf Senators-Detroit game in Sweden...Ottawa led 4-0 then Detroit scored 4 straight goals to come back and tie it...Big shot advantage to Detroit in regulation time..Goes to OT...Ottawa gets 4x3 PP ...fails to score..Ottawa PP sucked today...
Heading to shoot-out but in last minute Stuzle scores an amazing bat in goal out of the air ....acflip hangs up I the air for what seemed like an eternity of a slow floating knuckeball...he whacks at it and perfectly sends it past a ducking Reimer in the bet for Detroit as it was going for his head...So Ottawa wibs the gamec5-4.

The Stutzle goal shoukd be highlight reel material on the sports shows tonight...I watched thecTSN feed...I havrcto say tgat Cheryl Pounder may be the very best video play analyst of any broadcast covering NHL games..Breaks down video to show viewers both good plays offensively and poorvl play defensively and not playing in proper coverage and purposeful structure.

She is the John Madden of video analysis for NHL hockey...nobody ist even close.

If the NHL ever went to a female head coach...in my opinion she would be firstborn a list to fill that role...

I guess my problem with the Petgrave stuff is its less intentional than either McSorley or Bertuzzi. He was reckless with his body and legs but the result was a freak accident. If Damar Hamlin dies does Tee Higgins go to jail for spearing a guy with his helmet?

If Kurashev breaks his neck last night and dies on that hit in the boards does that mean that Sergachev does to jail? It just feels like a situation where a guy is getting punished for the result. I know that is what manslaughter technically is but in a sporting environment where hitting and fighting with knives on your feet is normal, getting one to the neck doesn't feel like manslaughter.

The only video I was able to find of the incident was real grainy and the moment happened so fast it was hard to see if it was a freak accident or if Petgrave was being completely reckless and intentionally waiving his leg around.

That’s society unfortunately. I could do 180km/h down the road and only lose my license if I’m caught.

But if I hit and kill somebody at 50km/h, it’s manslaughter and jail time. The law is built off the result not the intent. I don’t agree but that’s what it is.

Its pretty clear to me he is being reckless and swung his leg up. He's always been a dirt bag player.

I'm pretty sure accidents involving a death don't result in a manslaughter charge or jail time unless DWI/DUI are involved, or something like drag racing. Accidents really don't get you charged with felony crimes like that.

They can in Canada
If you are careless driving you can get a manslaughter charge.
