Stars are Hurricanes West tbh. Every move they make is supposedly genius but they never get it done in the end.

Story for Dallas. Johnston, Robertson and Heiskanen all tied with 16 points in 19 games. It’s just not good enough from your top guys. And no game changer yet who could take over games.

Not surprising to see them struggle to score over these past few games.

Sportsnet's hockey analyst, ex-NHLer Luke Gazdic, just did a highlight package on the performance of Nurse in tonight's game. It is far different than what I read here from some folks who like to cherry pick certain plays to try and prove their point. Nurse has had a real good game... but like Seth in Chicago, he gets a lot of criticism based on his contract.
Nurse was bad until the last couple of games. Everyone was talking about it, not just here. It was talked about by NHL press, to the point McDavid had to address it.

Funny how you can talk about a guy who has had a few good games as if he's never been bad. He has. Recently. Really bad. And people here noticed it. Apparently, you didn't. Makes me wonder what games you were watching.

They’ve gone to back-to-back WCFs while carrying the Seguin and Benn anchor contracts and their lineup is littered with young players they drafted.

They’ll be fine.

I would say bigger story is the reality Stars ran top 4 into ground because Suter, Petrovic and Lundqvist are terrible

Stars tried to pull a 2015 Hawks but don't have comparable to talent Hawks top 4 did and Crawford > Oettinger who leaves a lot to be desired at this point (I like him as goalie, but he lets in some real softies and is far from elite)

Stars could really use a Seth Jones to be honest

Johnston, Harley, Robertson, Heiskanen and Stankoven is a really good young core without their prospects even being discussed. All 24 or younger. They're gonna be a force for a decade.

No doubt they'll be contending for years to come but we're like a decade into Jim Nill being the greatest GM of all time so surely they should have something to show for it.

You could do everything right organizationally for a decade and still not win a Cup in your window. Winning a Cup is no guarantee for any player, coach, exec, organization, etc.
Not the same sport but in MMA time immemorial we see examples of complete champion level fighters not reach the pinnacle come up short having to face some of the greatest of all time as opponents in their prime. Poirier was absolutely dogged for 15 years and just probably retired after running into Khabib, his father and his own protege in Makachev, and Oliveira on an 11 fight win streak… there’s an argument for him being the best fighter to never win a belt.

Point being you’re dead on where wrong place wrong time happens in sports and that’s true for life all around presumably — maybe it’s cliche but “winners” not only build themselves to excellence and reach their potential, but put themselves in a position frequently where they can be “lucky”, as often as they possibly can.

With that it says a lot about greatness like the hawks run where they repeated their success, but it’s echoed when considering how much good fortune they might have had alongside catching fire at the right time. Seabrooks double doink in 2016 could have happened with Hossa and the preds in 2010, Detroit in 2013, etc

Sportsnet analyst and ex-NHL hockey player knows a bit about this game. Dare I say, quite a bit more than you.... even in your dreams.
you know you are doing well in a discussion when you have to appeal to the opinion of one of your hockey dads to get your point across.

On Friedman’s podcast, they talk about how Kekalainen is a contender for the GM job in Carolina. They also mention how the GM won’t have any real power, and that all moves need to be brought to Dundon and the board and they’ll be giving the okay on moves.

Looks like Jaeger’s favourite team is about to be entering the dark ages.

You seem to have a real problem sorting out "is" from "was".

He "is" currently playing well, and the press and fans have pointed that out.

He "was" playing badly, and the press and fans pointed that out.

You came on here and tried to use his current play to try to point out that people on here were wrong for pointing out how badly he was playing previous to that last few games, which is laughable.

Can you share? What is going to happen with tulsky? What a meltdown after setting up a relationship finally with the wolves

Dallas RE-signed Seguin at an almost $10m AAV back in 19/20 and he’s been a 50-60 point player. Thats unacceptable and he’s had even worse production in the playoffs. Jamie Benn has been better than Seguin for sure but his play hasn’t matched his cap hit either.

Drafting and development is obviously huge for GMs and Front Offices but getting the most out of your cap space is IMHO the single most important thing for a GM. I think we’ve got about 20 years of data to look back on now and it’s plain as day it’s better to let guys walk as UFAs than sign them for huge contracts when they’re 29-30+.

Seguin was a point per game guy when it was harder to be that until his hip injury in 2020 playoffs. Just tough timing.
