Would be cool to see Kane come back healthy and sign with PIT. Crosby, Malkin, Kane, Letang, and Erik Karlsson all on one team going on a run in the playoffs

Pens have no other option

The fans, ownership, etc all agree the future is f***ed

Going for it in final years of Crosby/Malkin/Letang area is only viable option
It's not the only option, it's the only option they want to do. The other option is to trade those guys and that is not something a GM wants to do. But if Gretzky can be traded...

As soon as they hired Dubas, they were going to push their chips in. Even if EK, I don't see the Pens going deep in the playoffs unless they find a fountain of youth. Which is why, even if it is tempting at the deadline...Dubas must resist trading Yager or any 2025 or later draft picks. But I expect both to happen much to the dismay of Pens fans.

I think San Jose made out well, considering the circumstances. Last year's Erik Karlsson had arguably the worst contract in the league. He had a great year this past year, but who is to say he even comes close to that again as he ages more and more. Pittsburgh now has a 33 year old 10mil player for 4 more years. He has had 1 full season in his last 5 years, and had more goals last year than the 4 years previous, combined.

San Jose fans should be happy to be out of that contract, and got a 1st round pick to boot.

This is why I think SJ won that. They retained just a little over a million on his contract AND picked up a 1st rounder while moving Kar along after a career year.

"The Geriatrics" would all need to stay healthy - no easy task these days especially with Kane coming off major surgery and Letang and EK are injury prone.

Toss Toews in there as well. Kane comes back after recovering and Toews with a mint or so to go in the regular season.

Crosby, Malkin, Toews down the middle. Kane on the wing for Crosby. Go bold or go home.

Don't know how legit it is, but the trade boards are talking about Vegas potentially trading Marchessault because of the cap.

If (big IF) it's true, I'm interested how much he'd return for them. Likely something good given he just won a Conn Smythe. Would love to get him relatively cheap just to trade him with retention at the deadline.

If its cheap they aren't moving him. They are looking to cash in on a guy who is old and moving towards UFA.
