You honestly expect that man to have learned much though? He also got called out by Detroit players like Frazen as just being a terrible person but has shown no remorse or change publicly.
Will he be a great person? Probably not. But I doubt he repeats some of the obscene things he has done that he has been called out for publicly.

Right, because human beings, especially the bad ones, are all about turning over a new leaf....

Is he still a “good but not great” skater?

Yep. But claiming him costs zero assets and he’s signed to a perfect 2 years at under 2 mil. If nothing else he provides internal competition in training camp *shrugs*

I mean if I was the GM I would claim him just to see. Could be a good candidate to try on Bedard’s wing

Leafs should work out a trade with the Ducks around Nylander and Gibson

Why would anyone want Gibson?

Last thing the Leafs need is major part of cap tied up into a mediocre G

Gibson defenders will say his team sucks but there are plenty of times his performance in recent years has been issue not his teammates.

Gibson is being undersold here. It’s a deal around the two players. Anaheim would be adding obviously. But it would fill a positional need for goaltending in the Leafs case, and Gibson would no doubt be better than what they have now. Anaheim would send back Gibson + and they’d get Nylander who wants $10 million a year. The Leafs aren’t gonna pay him that. He’s a really good player but they can’t afford him at that AAV. Anaheim has no problems with a $10mAAV they’ve got $27m in cap space and Nylander would be an All Star for them.

I’m not sure what the plus would be but if the Leafs only value him at <$9.0m then the ask back can’t be too ridiculous. Gibson would play well with Toronto, they’d win the division for sure. He’s shown he can he great before. He can probably at least get back to “steady enough to win a playoff series” form. We know how bad our Hawks were last year, the Ducks were somehow worse than us. Gibson would do well on a playoff team.

If Nylander is signed the + is more of course. The trade would make sense for Anaheim as well as Toronto.

Explain why Leafs would want a soon to be 30 yr old goalie who has been awful for last 4 years and is signed for 4 more years at $6.4M cap hit ($25.6M in actual costs)?

Now then explain they would give up a 26 yr old Nylander coming off his best season of career (40 goals, 87 pts) and is just entering prime for him? Even if Nylander is FA next year the Leafs can get actual quality player(s) or future assets for Nylander if they trade him

Unless the + coming from Ducks with Gibson is Zegras or McTavish (Wont happen) there is no reason for Leafs to take on the awful Gibson deal

He's been bad for awhile and Nylander has 100 point upside. If the Blackhawks made that trade and gave up Nylander would you be happy with it?

Opens up 2nd buyout window for Leafs on Murray if they go that route

B's are in interesting situation with Swayman and Frederic given cap/roster situation

I wonder how much Samsonov wants? Goalies (IIRC) seem to be getting 5ish.
If he is awarded 5m the leafs would have to move a decent player or walk away from Samsonov
