It's a lot easier when you don't have concerts etc to work your way around for all these arenas  Only good thing about the pandemic. The scheduling is easy

having no other events definitely makes things easier to figure out the schedule in a condensed season but I don't see it as a major issue in a normal year if thats what they want to do. often teams play multiple games at home in a row or multiple on the road on the row. so if you make it so they are facing the same team in multiple games in a row its not changing arena availability just the road team.

it makes it more complex and i'm sure that even this year you will still see single games cause its impossible to schedule everything perfectly without conflicts...but when teams see the benefits of saving $$ on travel they can definitely make it a much more common thing in a normal year.

Wonder if some teams will allow fans in some capacity inside their arenas. Every state has different restrictions , Florida for one has no restrictions.

I got an email from the Stars. They are allowing 5,000 fans per game although the state of Texas is allowing up to 50%. City rules can be different.

The city of Houston is allowing up to 25%. My friend works the Houston Rockets games and I think he mentioned that they are allowing approximately 3,ooo this week, but it can go up to 4,500.

Whether the Rangers start out in MSG with no fans in attendance--eventually as the season goes along fans will be allowed in larger and larger numbers. Personally I would not want to go right now. I would want to wait for wider vaccine distribution.....and it may turn out that people will need their vaccination cards to be allowed in. It makes sense to me anyway and rewards participation.

I think also we should not get worked up over what other states do. I would rather the state I lived in were making an attempt at protecting the safety and well being of its citizens and particularly when there is light at the end of the tunnel---why screw around now?

Yeah, this was more in response to @nyr2k2 bringing up games where just 1 team is on the end of a back-to-back, giving the "fresh" team an advantage. It's a lot easier to avoid those situations in a season where arenas are basically empty. The biggest challenge and reason we have those b2b scenarios is because basically every arena is a multi-purpose arena, whether it's shared with basketball teams or used as a venue for concerts etc. It's a lot harder to plan around those events and still avoid b2b games.

Panthers and Tampa Bay will also allow fans. I travel to Florida often, was in Disney a couple of times, and was even at a Dolphins game. Things are open but with restrictions and precautions in place. But at least they are open.

The Rangers playing a schedule which could potentially have 4 straight games where they don't leave NY and play the Islanders. Closest thing to a playoff series between the two teams. After the games they had last year, that week would be one of the more intense regular season weeks they've ever had.

the rangers/devils/isles will definitely have the easiest schedule in terms of travel

A simple overhead camera will 90% of the time give a quick answer, and 9/10 of the rest will be solved by one of the other cameras.

By far the most controversial offside call reviews were where you couldn’t tell if the skate was on the blue line ice, or 1 millimeter above it. The spirit of off side rule was not about that at all, and reviews, while necessary, were often still not conclusive. This should help greatly.

i m excited. Im not excited when we play western conference fames. Especially one's where the game starts at 1030 i hope the schedule permanently stays with more rivalry games after this year. Screw playing the western conference

Yeah it’s so dumb that the pitcher hits and there is no DH. Hate that

And from a developmental standpoint having tough, rivalry sets that mimic playoff series - couldn’t ask for a better thing for a rebuilding team with tons of youth who are on the cusp of competing.

Not only will the kids be exposed to a more competitive brand of hockey, but the front office will have the holes in the roster illuminated.

This is great for the Rangers, win or lose.

I miss the days when we played our division six times or whatever it was a season.

Rivalries mostly develop in the playoffs, and those are series. This should help re-ignite some hatred, hopefully.

agree - i think this will be great. Typically, there are so many games against teams i couldn't care less about. This season, all these games will grow the rivalries. It's going to be great and likely more chippy and physical. So long as a Marchant doesn't go filthy and take out an opponent's knee this should be great.

The simple way to improve the offside rule is to stop the review of it.

NHL was fine for a century without reviewing it. If you can't say it's offside without zooming in and watching it frame by frame then its way too close to take a goal away because of it.

When a referee misses it the other way, play stops. No way to change that. Shouldn't change the other way either.

from that view point just get rid of all replays. let the refs get the call wrong and say eventually they will screw up something else and it evens out lol

the point of the review on offsides is because there were calls where a guy was clearly offsides and it was missed...it wasn't intended to be about the millimeter differences. it was supposed to overturn the blatant ones that were missed.
