So the season is gonna be mostly a bunch of home-and-homes.

it won't be home and home...it will be consecutive games in the same arena to cut down on travel. think of series in MLB...

so for example when the caps come to NY. they will probably try to schedule for them to play 2 games against the rangers, 2 against isles and 2 against the devils before they get on a plane to pittsburgh. where in past years they would play the rangers once. fly to pittsburgh to face the pens and then fly back to play the isles or something like that.

it limits covid risk of travel but even more important minimizes the travel expenses.

Can't wait to sweep a 3 game set against Buffalo and steal Eichel.
Think buffalo would just be a 2-game set while the 3 and 4-game sets will be for teams out west with longer travel. Or, possibly up in Canada to satisfy the provincial governments. 4-game set to limit the number of trips in and out of the provinces?

Playing our rivals 8x each is going to be insane. The league drastically needs to inject some new drama cause rivalries have gotten quite tame in recent years.

Well, if we're gonna be like MLB, MSG should put cardboard cutouts of fans in the seats. Obviously cutouts of people in suits, people with money, and celebs.

Anyone else not excited about playing the same teams over and over? I understand that's what they have to do but it's obviously not ideal.

i m excited. Im not excited when we play western conference fames. Especially one's where the game starts at 1030 i hope the schedule permanently stays with more rivalry games after this year. Screw playing the western conference

I'm not a big fan of it either but I understand the reasons for it under these circumstances. It makes for some interesting story lines during the season as the teams play through their series against the other teams in the division. Tkachuk vs. Tkachuk 9 or 10 times could be fun.

I think it's going to get a little played out to be honest. I actually do enjoy the western vs. games from time to time. Playing a team 4 or even 5 times seems just enough, and maybe even too much, But now 8 times? Going to get very familiar with these teams... maybe a little too familiar.

Agreed. Would love to have the league schedule be only 1 game per year against the other conference, alternate home team each year. I do not need to see all those teams every year at MSG. Would rather have more division games. I do not need McDavid to come in every year. If I go to Rangers-Oilers, I am going because I want to see the RANGERS not the McDavids.

While they have half as many games as the MLB, I always thought that the NHL would be better suited if they had a similar schedule setup that they have, in regards to series' and matchups.

Makes more sense.

I hope they go to this for 82 game 21-22 season.

2021-22 schedule
16 games against other conference
42 games against division (6 games per team)
24 games against other division in conference. (3 games each team)

then keep playoff format the same as this year. Top 4 teams in each division make playoffs. 4 conference finalists are one team from each division.

...
16 games against other conference...

I get it, but maybe unlikely.
For a few seasons, a while back, league backed away from each team visiting each 'other conference' home arena every season
But that was received badly in some corners, and reversed after just a few seasons.

Rangers Islanders 8 times is going to be stupendous and will get some of that good ole hate back into the rivalry especially because both teams should be good.

Alot of peeps in here who are under 45 years old don't know what true hate for a team is. Ranger Islanders for those over 45 and experienced the excruciating 80's when every year the Islanders stepped over our asses on their way to their 4 Cups know what I'm talking about. There was true hate back than. Now with things like fantasy hockey around, there isn't the kind of vitriol there used to be.

Both teams are relevant now and with both teams playing one another so much, it's going to awesome!

That should become a staple of scheduling. Do away with one team on the second leg of a back to back, and the other team coming in fresh. That kind of stuff.

I figured I was a dinosaur at 35. Lol.

People hating Chicago and Boston and not Philadelphia or Colorado is just weird to me.

Lot of cats on here came on after the lockout, or even just past ten years. Maybe I'm somewhere in the middle age wise. I've watched about 25 years of Ranger hockey.

i remember that. Maybe this will spark it back to rivalries. Maybe some bad blood will get people to want to watch more rivalry games.

the current schedule is so watered sown it makes conferences and divisions meaningless. Almost half your games will be Out of conference if they go back to last year's formula in 21-22. Its dumb.

It's a lot easier when you don't have concerts etc to work your way around for all these arenas  Only good thing about the pandemic. The scheduling is easy
