What is the difference between the regular vs X-Factor edition?

No, upon more play I've learned to adapt defensively. Still hard to hit though, except hip check is easier. I've played against one guy who spammed hip check constantly, basically just skated around holding down the hip check button so his guys are skating around hunched over until they hip check you. Annoying
Love that. The truculence play style needs to go, doesn’t reflect how actual hockey is played at all

Cause its a video game.
Which is why I find it funny people get upset about one thing they deem unrealistic while benefitting from tons of other things themselves, truculence is bad but it’s ok to have basically every shot go in by just flicking up or to have every tip go in etc etc because of their prefered X Factor abilities

-Ice tilt, that was in the game, is now easily seen in the MIDDLE OF THE ICE! Puck rag for maximum dumb goalie and AI defenders, and score!
-Press 1 button to do "The Michigan" goal 12 times a game! (Just what we wanted!)

Unreal honestly.. the beta was so rough, I think I have seen/experienced enough.

So… to me it seems like the “exhaust engine” would be a good idea but it looks absolutely horribly executed

First, it fills up too quickly and it fills up arbitrarily based on zone time, not on ACTUAL pressure. If you’re winning board pins, generating shots, recovering loose pucks and genuinely hemming the other team in, that should generate “pressure” and create fatigue in the opponents.

Letting the D sit back and playing pitch from point to point until the meter fills doesn’t create pressure and shouldn’t lead to fatigue either. The idea that once the meter fills the other team magically becomes heavily hindered is silly - if they haven’t been chasing and grinding why would they be? Also if McDavid or Barzal is early on a shift and has been playing “defense” the way a cherry picking offensive talent often does, they’d still have good wheels if they managed to grab the puck. Right now it looks like once that pressure meter fills up, you’re gonna basically have to get to center and dump. I could be wrong, but it doesn’t look like a team that’s been hemmed in could break up a pass and have a guy like Barzal still manage to turn it into a breakaway the other way, which actually often happens in hockey.

Additionally, the fact that it creates a buff for 30 seconds is really silly. So if you fill the meter and keep them pinned in their own end for 45 seconds the buff actually wears off at 30? That’s the complete opposite of what would happen. What about PPs where the team manages to spend the fill 2 minutes in the offensive zone? All that tells me is that if the other team doesn’t manage to clear the puck before 30 seconds is up you’re basically guaranteed to score.

The goalie fatigue is a good idea too but just like the pressure meter, it looks like the goalies fatigue way, way too quickly. Hopefully sliders can adjust some of these things. And if they listened to the community on the bringing back hybrid controls, I really hope they listen on allowing us to turn off the pressure gauge. Some others adjustments look good. The one touch passing could add some nice goals that I previously would try to execute but the input lag on receiving a pass and firing another one would throw the play off so that it never worked out as a tic-tax-toe like real life. The hits look a bit better. Still not great, but the contact looks a bit more varied. Changes to vision control are welcome as well. And if we don’t see a lot of lacrosse goals I don’t mind it being button mapped. I only play offline so if the AI doesn’t abuse it, I certainly won’t be trying it more than maybe a couple times a season with appropriate players.

Overall, the exhaust engine’s execution looks like a FAR bigger flaw and negative than those potentially promising additions. The AI just looks lost in general as always, and the core gameplay is just stale. With no offline modes getting any updates there’s not a much for a player like myself to really hope for. Hopefully the creation zone itself has some nice improvements and they’ve unlocked some of the things we can edit on players.

I think to make the exhaust system really work is that the goalies need to be tuned to prevent all the net mouth scrambles

The fatigue should be based on how much the defensive team is forced to move, and it should increase slightly with each shot attempt. They could have done this properly if they actually put some effort into it. They just made a meter, screwed with some values in the code, and called it a day.

I’ve only played one hockey game online,NHL 2k7. It sucked and was such a bad experience with the person complaining and harassing me that I swore off online sports games. I’ve never opened up any online mode in any ea sports game or played hut, never will. It’s always sad to see franchise mode get the shaft.

On the positive side the fatigue for individual players seems to be a lot better than it used to be people would just play long shifts without ever changing really. Probably won't stop my friend from playing his created guy for 4+ minutes in a shift though.

I had a similar experience. I tried playing one of the EA NHL games in the early 2010s online and I would get scored on a bunch of times early on and almost every opponent I had would quit in the first period. I had no chance to improve. I honestly think I only completed one game.

But I think the biggest hang-up I had was it didn't play like real hockey at all. For example, I would have my goalie freeze the puck when there were opponents in his face like in real life. But I would get yelled at for that. Then when I would try to pass the puck when my goalie made a save it seemed like no matter where I tried to pass it would get stolen and often I was scored upon.

You swore off online sports games forever because a person complained and harassed you in 2007?

Are you for real?

online sports gaming isn't the same as the sport being played. It's people skating circles around a zone doing fancy moves. I've seen videos, it's not for me. Neither is Madden is a hang back wait for the D for the get lost and run with the QB. DOesn't interest me. I prefer single player. My experience in 2k7 cemented that for me. it's not about think skin, it's about what's fun and interesting. Not to mention in single player you don't need get Microtransactions thrown in your face. But you guys keep up your personal attacks, especially @Juniorhockeyguru, im sure he'd be happy to know I did seek therapy after my father died.

Keep it coming, for some reason the people attacking you are just regurgitating the same nonsense because they think it panders to an audience who will agree with them and in turn have some sort of shallow self validation.

You are allowed to come to your own conclusion whatever they may be if something does not interest you.

For example I basically quit buying ea nhl back in 2016, have played a bit of online vs here and there every year ( 2017-2023 ) and absolutely hate the way almost every person plays, cross crease one timers or goal line cheese even in 2023. My friends think I don’t try hard enough but when that’s the only way people try to score, where is the fun?
