Chicago is going to be under immense pressure to put a competitive team together quickly now that Bedard is theirs. They've already sold hundreds of season seat packages and these fans aren't buying tickets to watch them lose with Bedard. Could be a very rocky road ahead and they accelerate their rebuild by years.
Going to be a tough adjustment for Bedard handling the emotional pressure of having to be their savior from game 1. Not to mention he will literally be the only shutdown focus of the opponent every night

That’s a very interesting quote. Almost sounds like he likes Dantili or Carlson over Bedard.
No, he made it clear he would have liked to have Bedard. From all his comments I get the impression they have a distinct 2 and 3 in mind and now they will have time to research the finer details of each to see who they want. For sure Fantilli or Carlsson.

FAs will flock there. i could see kane and debrincat returning
Perhaps but even if true, free agency is where most teams make their biggest mistakes. I can also see them trading a lot of the draft picks they have accumulated. They really can't wait 4-5 years to be competitive and right now they are a very very very bad team with not much young talent.

Remember, McDavid has been in the league 8 years and EDM still hasn't made a Finals. They had already drafted a few key pieces by the time they drafted McD too. Chicago is behind the 8 ball a bit and I'd love to see them fast track their rebuild because it would likely just do more harm than good.

If they are smart, they will practice some patience. Kane would need to decide if he wants to win another Cup or if he wants to go back to a rebuild. He already made his exit, I think he's done in CHI.

The thing about guys like this, they typically smile at the odds and adversity.

Everyone drops in the lottery more than they move up. Every team that moves up creates 1-10 drops.

We literally won a lottery today and got a higher pick than the one we were most likely to get.

I understand there's some extra angst because it's Chicago, but I'm honestly surprised at how upset ducks fans are on average.
because they fall in the lottery every year. the team that finished last has ended up picking #1 the last two years but of course that wasn't the case this year

1. The curse of finishing with the 2nd worst record dropping continues on it's 8th consecutive draft. I'm just happy we didn't finish with the 2nd worst and it's paid off in a way. We won the 2nd pick lottery and Columbus dropped.

2. Winning the 2nd pick lottery is a disappointment, though.

Putting both thoughts feel like a Pyrrhic victory. Onto the Fantilli vs Carlsson debates... but I think Fantilli's style is what Verbeek wants. Question for Verbeek is, "Does Verbeek fear NCAA players in the higher draft rounds?" That could be a reason Verbeek passed on Snuggerud last year.

I meant have a chance to win the lottery with a truly generational player on the line (Crosby, Bedard), and lose out.
i wouldn't really say they "lost out" on crosby. they finished 22nd in 03-04 so they actually moved up. but i obviously get where you're coming from. to be one pick away from one of the all time greats still kills me

I can't ever remember a 1st round pick going the college route and then opting for FA. Has it ever happened? Fanilli will either sign this summer or after his sophomore season. I expect Snuggerud to sign after his sophomore season as well.

It pretty much never happens, it's almost always a later-round pick mostly defensemen who have a lot less to lose from spending as much time in the NCAA as possible.

If we won our last game of the season like I wanted we would of finished 3rd worst record (the spot the Blackhawks where in) and would be drafting 1st overall (if no rigging going on)

Now that just makes me feel even worse about finishing dead last
