i put him at tavares level
if he becomes tavares, and fantilli develops, i don't think we really even missed out on a whole lot.

but, i can see the argument that Tavares maybe hasn't lived up to the way he was heralded prior to entering the league - still has been a great player.

Is we’re trading back into the first round I wouldn’t be trying to get a forward. Imo, ducks backend prospects, while all very projectable to playing on an NHL power play lack size, strength, and overall defensive ability to win in the playoffs. There’s only so many spots on the power play and in the top 6. The core forwards for the ducks are set and as good as it gets. Dysdale and Zellweger can man the power plays from the backend for years to come. Get so grit in the backend. I’d like a guy like Simashev.

It pretty much never happens, it's almost always a later-round pick mostly defensemen who have a lot less to lose from spending as much time in the NCAA as possible.
Exactly correct.

A guy like Strbak could be available at 33. RHD and compared often to an Eric Cernak type. This is not a good year for defensemen in general though.

I am feeling disappointed. It is not that Fantilli or Carlsson are bad players. They are very worthy draft choices with tremendous talent. They just are not Bedard. After such a horrible season and actually finishing last, we are the first last play team in the "new" lottery to not pick first. And to add to the injury, it is Chicago, a fair haired child of the NHL, that picks first.

I will get over this disappointment at some time. I will root for the success of whomever the Ducks chose, and indeed all Duck draft selections. But for tonight, I will dream of what might have been, what should have been.

okay i am excited for Fantilli, but could Chicago pass on Bedard for Fantilli. I believe that MacKinnon was a surprise if i remember correctly.

I can't ever remember a 1st round pick going the college route and then opting for FA. Has it ever happened? Fanilli will either sign this summer or after his sophomore season. I expect Snuggerud to sign after his sophomore season as well.

Huh? I was just pointing out some recent news that Verbeek is gun shy about NCAA prospects due to Thrun spurning him. Passing up on Snuggerud because he's college bound could be a thing and could have put Gaucher ahead of Snuggerud. Former GM Murray was allergic to drafting Russians for a while.

Unbelievable! On the same day Ducks get the 2nd overall pick and I will watch against the national team of my home country the guy who probably will be selected with that pick.

No. Bedard isn't a talent you can pass on.

I think of it like this. Fantilli might be the skillset you want or the player that might fit better in your current group, but Bedard is the guy you are given. He takes the choice away from you and forces you to make other roster choices.

If we won our last game of the season like I wanted we would of finished 3rd worst record (the spot the Blackhawks where in) and would be drafting 1st overall (if no rigging going on)

Now that just makes me feel even worse about finishing dead last
If the Ducks finished in third, they probably would have have dropped to 5th. The Ducks never move up.

Not that I think there is even a remote possibility of Fantilli not signing with Anaheim, but isn't there a compensatory pick for NCAA players drafted in the first round that don't sign with the team that drafted them?

Bobby Ryan vs Fantilli.
I can't think of anything Ryan did better.
Same height but Fantilli skates like a Ferrari engine while Ryan skates like a used 80s Ford taurus.

I think hearing the name Eichel too gives people caution but Fantilli is an all out effort player. Bobby Ryan maybe could’ve been better than he turned out, but he did have quite a crazy life.

If we got Bedard we would’ve been sooo small and soft. Fantili May end up being a better fit with our needs and all of the small skill guys we already have.

I appreciate people who tries to see the glass half full but as for me, I only see I had to swallow the worst ever season for this franchise only to end up with a (fantastic) consolation prize while the generational one goes to the biggest SOB in town, as a final insult.
I said it before and I repeat that anything besides Bedard would have been a failure, I stand by that. Not our fault ofc but still it burns af...

A little late to the game... I had guessed we'd pick second in the poll yesterday, but I'm still disappointed we didn't get first, but more ticked off that Chicago did. Oh well, I'm hopeful fantilli pans out.

Hinds, Warren, and to a lesser extent Luneau say hello. There’s honestly a good balance on the backend with them to support Drysdale, Zell, Lacombe and Minty as our top D prospects. Minty and Lacombe aren’t small. They just need talent, whether that’s up front or on the blue line. Throw darts at the dart board.

Generational players are always the best fit. These are the types of guys that can single handedly change the trajectory of the team.

Size and toughness you can always acquire.

On the other hand, the Ducks drafting defensemen is guaranteed trade value
