So what are ppl's thoughts on the draft haul?

It went down hill after Grans for me.

Thats my feels, but i will look into the these guys, i really don't much other than the rankings ..the trade, meh, seems like he like the home cooking, coming to NA has really hasn't worked out yet.

That’s an interesting take. Lot of the independent scouting services are praising some of the Kings’ selections. I think some of you armchair GMs are a bit too reactive when seeing a player you focused on get passed over.

I would tend to agree. Just like when people lost it when Bjornfot was selected. It was a shit show in here.

Realistically, there are not many people in here, if any that have the same type of insight/knowledge that those in the know that work in the league or have good connections would have.

Sit back and give it time. Let's look back in a few years and see how things are turning out.

I'm guilty as charged, I admit it. I'm just spitting out my immediate reactions to picks without much context, to be fair. Hell I was one of the people who crapped myself about the Bjornfot pick before Kaliyev got selected. I don't think there's anything wrong with that in the GDT though.

I, too, crapped myself.

I like the direction of our draft so far, it is all over the place with emphasis on talent. We have picked a bit of everything from massive superstar potential center to a mini might offensive plus winger on the forward side and big boom or bust Helge Grans to Mikey Anderson right side clone Faber. We also landed a reclamation project that was a 7th overall pick who is only 21 and could step into our bottom 6 towards the end of the year. Just waiting on a goalie prospect and we will have aquired a bit of everything.

Think with this draft in particular they're taking a little more risks than maybe other years mainly because we have the best prospect pool in the league. Realistically how many open spots are there going to be in 3-4 years times assuming our main prospects core all make it to the NHL?

Don't get me wrong, I think we added depth but that's it. Remove QB from the draft and it's adverage at best.

Dismal draft as well. Going 2nd overall the Kings sure shit themselves this year in comparison to the last couple years. Oh well you aren't always going to draft great, sucks they'd blown it when they had the highest pick selections in a long time.

Hope they prove me wrong.

Then you can trade them for good returns. Absolutely no logical reason to take stupid risks. And it kinda seems like they did.

We're almost at the contract limit and have infinity picks and plenty of "Safe" NHLers in the org. When is a good time to take risks, in your estimation?

I don't know many of their draft picks, but I didn't last season either and that 'looks' pretty good a season later. Yannetti and company are good at their jobs, which doesn't mean they'll bat 1.000, but maybe we'll be happier the more we see and read about these new kids. Time will tell.

I don't understand why some of you guys think this draft hasn't gone well. Byfield and Grans are home run picks. We've talked shit about Bob's and Button's rankings for months, and now we're using them to rate the Faber pick? Dobber had Byfield 1st overall, Grans at 15, and Faber at 23. Elite Prospects had Byfield at 2, Grans at 19, and Faber at 37. If I've learned anything over the past three years, it's that we should trust Yannetti and his team.

I only ever have a surface level knowledge of prospects, so whatever. I usually just like getting superstitious over names past the 2nd round. Byfield was the pick I was excited about. Everything else is gravy if they work out and if they don't work out I won't know who they are anyway.

Literally one of the worst takes i've read before. Especially when it pertains to drafts -- since there are no guarantees and it's so unknown. But you do you.

Hard to be disappointed in getting byfield and grans with our first two selections and we'll have to see how the lias anderson trade pans out. But I think we all were kind of expecting or hoping the kings to package some picks to move up and select a more premier prospect and their inability to be able to do it this year and drafting Faber instead is kind of disappointing. Especially since #2overall is kind of a slam dunk and what they did with the other 10 picks was kind of how I was evaluating them. All in all though still hyped

Also Pavs and Jamie Benn say hi being 7th round draft picks. Sometimes it's just luck of the draw mixed with good scouting that these kids game translate to the NHL in due time.

Patience isn't everyone's virtue.

I trust them and they've earned rope with me and I'm sure a post-analysis will look great. It's especially encouraging that a lot of deeper-look pundits seem to be giddy about our picks.

I'm simply said I'm not as currently excited as I was blow-by-blow during the last draft and again I don't see why instant reactions are bad since they allow for discussion to evolve. I guess we could all pat each other on the butts and say 'good pick' repeatedly but I'm much more interested in a response and then evolving the discussion through analysis and support. I'm happy to be wrong on most of these, hell I've already come around on Faber and baby Lafreniere. I don't at all think it's good to discourage people from gut reactions (unless they're taking shots at people or being generally toxic).

There have been very few trades where the team trading down dropped more than a couple picks. If the trades aren't there, what is Blake supposed to do?
