As such, we need to find something useful to do with the Kicker position. Luckily there’s a hidden option that fits our offensive philosophy perfectly.
I’m sure you all know Jerry Rice broke just about every Receiving record there was. What you may not know is the identity of the player whose records he mainly broke. It wasn’t any of the famous WRs of the 60s or 70s. It was someone from way back in the late 30s and early 40s, the man credited with inventing the modern NFL Wide Receiver,
Don Hutson.
When judged against contemporaries, Hutson pretty clearly has the second best career to the aforementioned Rice. If you take out his rookie season when he was still adjusting, the rest of Hutson’s career comprises 10 seasons. In 8 of those, he lead the league in Receptions. In 7 of those, he lead the league in Yards. In 9 of them, he lead the league in Receiving TDs.
It just so happens that Hutson was also the Packers’ Kicker for many of these years.
@Captain Dave Poulin We’ll be using him as an offensive super sub, but he fits our profile exactly of what we want out of a Kicker and as such would like to list him there.
@ajgoal Do things. Two of them.
