Zibanejad.

I like Tony but there's no way I'd be giving him a letter. There are guys in the room that have done and/or been through a lot more than he has. He's still a player establishing himself though he's made tremendous progress the last couple years. We might consider him a couple years from now but not now.

Importance to the team, tenure, consistent effort, dependability, character and leadership are pretty much things that I would look at and Zibanejad checks all the boxes. Panarin has all those things but the tenure. Kreider's not always dependable.

Don’t think you can get wrong with either guy.

My observation is Kreider would be better suited but have no issue if they go with Mika. Probably my only concern is that Mika is two years away from UFA and things can and sometimes do happen. Not that I expect him to leave but it is a consideration.

...whoever we name captain needs to be named Ryan, and then inevitably traded to the Lightning at the deadline.

Part of being a captain is setting an example every night.

Kreider doesn’t show up half the time - to me that’s a massive red flag. Your team’s identity starts with your captain. What type of example does that set? He’s a complete head case (not in the Deangelo way of course).

I haven’t seen captain material on this team since McDonagh left (and who even knows if he was a good captain). I think we were hoping Andersson was that guy unfortunately.

That'd truly be one hell of a comeback story!

I don't mind Staal being named captain, that could elevate his play and his trade value. Kreider seems most likely one. Lindgren could be considered, he seems high intensity and serious.

You can see that Mika is already the de facto C by his actions on the ice, as well as other players behavior toward him. Likewise, Kreider already pretty obviously seems to be his lieutenant.

I don't really care who is Captain but I'm not understanding the logic behind Trouba other than "American with a long term deal." He's relatively new to the team. He's been in the league for years and never had a letter in Winnipeg. I don't really see why he would be in the conversation along with guys like Kreider, Zibanejad, and even Fast (if here). It's not like we know who are the leaders in the locker room,

Trouba was brought in as a core building block. Make no mistake.

Not as Captain mind you, but leader of that D? Yes.

that wasn't really a good example though. Upshall didn't even see him coming it was a cheap shot and he was basically a 3rd man in. But yes, difinitely captain should be somebody that sticks up. Trouba does too I wouldn't mind him being a captain.
