Matthews will get 15+ over 8 years.
Nylander 11 over 8 years.

The cap is expected to go up by 10 million over the next 3 years. Either 1mil 2023, 4.5 mil 2024 4.5 mil 2025. There is talk the NHL may change it to 3mil, 3 mil, and 4mil. look at the percentage of the salary cap each of them signed their last contracts at. the cap is expected to go up 12% the next 3 years. Their agents also know this.
At the end of the day the Leafs timed several contracts to end the same year as Matthews and Willy. They also acquired Murray's contract to have that 4.6 mil to end at the same time as well. They will have lots of cap space to sign both.
Better question is who will the Leafs sign after this season. O'Reilly or Bunting? They have the money for one not both.

AM gets a blank cheque, if he wants 14+ he gets it.

WN is dependent on AM number. I expect something like 8 x 10-10.5 for him.

Makes the first year of their contracts very difficult to navigate and the team likely takes a step back that year. The Tavares' contract expires, Marner gets less than Matthews but a raise nontheless.

JT signs with whatever is left over/reasonable. Not a Gio contract, but something that is a very, very nice discount (and he is a winger at this point).

All very managable frankly. There is one tough season to make it fit where they're going to have to go cheap in areas they wouldn't want to.

Stars don't leave Toronto if the money is available to them. Willy wanted to get paid because every single person in the media who couldn't do the math made it seem like he HAD to be traded to make other things fit. Now that Dubas can give him a NTC - I assume he will want to get paid, but will be interested in staying.

The way they could get both, is a creative deal with ROR, something we haven't seen because of the risk it poses.

They have a ton of cap space for next year. Like actually a lot. They could give ROR something like 7M on a 1 year deal and then sign him to a multi-year extension in January for cheaper to essentially be the equivalent of a 3+ year deal with total money high but the AAV lower in the years it needs to be (not super cheap, i'm thinking 7M x 1 + 5M x 2 or 3 come Jan 1).

Not saying the above circumstance is likely, because I don't think it is. But, along with helping with offseason tagging space for the WN and AM extensions, it could certainly work.

Extending Dubas is a must. The next offseason is going to be critical to have a GM with continuity to navigate getting these guys in a room to understand how the team stays together reasonably.

No way they are able to retain Matthews Marner and Nylander on the next round of contracts. Tavares will be playing out the end of his as well and will need a new one. He’s playing at a point a game as a 2nd line centre, it won’t be 11 million again but he’s not coming back for Spezza money. So he might be gone too. Bet on Mitch and Matthews to be north of 13 each, possible 15 for Matthews.

This is it, this is why Dubas has gone all in. This group lives and dies by these playoffs.

If Matthews disappears in these playoffs, do you trade him for 5 first rounders not lottery protected? Keep Tavares Nylander and Marner? I might try.

It seems only the team knows what secret issues Matthews has so only they can best determine what salary he deserves over time. I wouldn't be signing any of them to contracts that take them over 34 years old (would prefer even younger expiry like 32). I think all 3 will try to take us to the cleaners. I'm sure all 3 like to win but not to the point where it affects their salaries.

‘We can and we will’

The only way I see Nylander (and Marner) resigning is if Matthews resigns. If not, I’m predicting a house of cards situation where all will either be traded or walk to free agency.

Matthews should make around 12 million while Nylander should get 9-10 million. Marner should be paid similar to Pasternak (give or take).
We couldn’t tear Marner away, William, I think stays at 10 million. Mathews will leave for more cash than we offer. JT stays forever much like Marner.

Willy is the perfect sell high candidate. Can’t let him walk for nothing and history shows how he handles contract negotiations

IDK, if Marner and Matthews are really that close I don’t see one staying and one leaving. JT I agree though he’s a Leaf for life.

I'd take less if one of those 1sts is Bedard.

If mathews wants 15 million that tells he just wants money and the cup is not important .
BYE
Trade him to Arizona for a boat load of picks a prospects

My guess based on the numbers.

13.4 x8 for Matthews
8.8 x8 for willy
11.6x 8 for marner (93 million total)

All of them easily made up or out performed their previous contracts. Let’s hope they do again

IS this the Vancouver management team's HF account? Same asset management and fantasy land trade expectations.
How much do you think you get in a trade for Matthews with him having only 1 year left? Arizona is not going to give you anything without an extension. No one is. The second he is on the market everyone knows he is both leaving Toronto and looking to get a max money deal. So good luck with that.

Mathews is not worth 4 million more than Willy

WILLY will sign for 10 million

Dubas really needs to take mathews injury history into account

Can sign ROR to a RNH type deal. 5mil/5.5mil AVV. Leafs have at least 4 ELC/league minimum contracts in their lineup and a cheap Holmberg at around 1 mil. Would give the Leafs 11 forwards and about 2.5 mil in cap space before using Muzzin's LTIR. All that's left is Samsonov and they have to decide if they trade/buyout Murray's deal and pay Samsonov or use Muzzin LTIR

Ummmm tkachuk? Jones? LindholmLiterally every player who extends?

The idea is that you can extend the player. 2 years out you can’t.

You can also have him for 750 k for a year. I don’t see coyotes paying him in full SB but a team that wants him could save like 15 million on the first year of his service

They probably will want a new deal in place

The also have a new arena around the same time.

Maybe Matthews want to come home

Really difficult to predict these contracts IMO. Some interesting reading ITT, I skimmed through it so probably missed this and that but this jumps out at me as being a bit out there considering how these two have played this season. Of course contracts aren't based on only this season but this season does carry more weight than the pervious season, and more still than the season before that and so on.
