What he gets will be based on the salary cap. For example, Rantanen signed his contract 4 yrs ago when the cap was 81M. The cap is projected to be around 92M by the time Willy signs his next contract. Rantanen's current AAV is what I would expect will be the floor of what we could expect Willy to get.

I highly doubt he would get what Pasta got. I could see him getting somewhere around 10 -10.5M.
Based on what comparables is he worth 10+m ?

Matthews will depend on next year. He's probably looking at 12-13m if he pops off. The Hart will guarantee a raise for him, but it won't be much unless he is a top5 player in the league again next year, with considerable playoff success to boot.

Nylander is going to get between 9 and 10, which is why we should look to trade him this summer and get a massive haul. I am done with having 3x 10m players on the team, it forces us to bleed too much quality depth every single summer. If we re-sign Willy, it's just going to mean a year of gutting the team yet again while we wait for JT's contract to end.

The goal of the Leafs isn't to one and done our way into a cup. Our 3 biggest stars are 25 and 26 years old. I hope that the team is able to come up with a vision of how to be sustainable contenders over their next contracts. Trade one, build around two, keep this disgustingly good defense we have, find a goalie, and use the futures of a Nylander (or Marner) trade to support the team with quality youngsters. ELC's and RFA's are the best contracts in the league.
This is the deepest team we’ve had in the cap era, including when we had Matthews Marner and Nylander for a combined 3 mil. The only notable depth piece we lost is Hyman and we could have made his contract work if they really wanted to keep him.

8.5M - 9M per for 8 years for Willy
12M per for 8 years for Mitch
12.5M - 13M per for 8 years for Matthews
6M per for 2 years for JT

Willy up 1.5-2M+, Marner for a 1M+ increase, Matthews with a 1-1.5M increase. JT drops 5M per. Everything works out the same. But, everyone is locked in long-term this time.
You'd be overpaying Mitch and way overpaying for JT .. Willy you are underpaying .. and Matty is about right

Mitch and Matthews have the resume to demand that much. Marner used Matthews as a comparable and will again. With JT it depends on how he ages. We'll see where his game is at in a couple years, if he is still a 70+ point player he probably won't give us the Spezza/Giordano discount, not yet anyway.

While I appreciate the increase in scoring from Willy. I don't think he commands more than I posted. Gaudreau only signed for 9.75M coming off an 115 point season, Huberdeau only got 10.5M coming off an 115 season, JT Miller signed for 8M coming off a 99 point season. Marner and Matthews bring something extra, Marner with his defensive game and PK abilities, Matthews with his size, physicality, ability to play the middle, shot blocking etc. Nylander is more of an offense only option and historically he hasn't reached the heights or played with the consistency of Marner or Matthews. I think he would do well to make 8.5M-9M in a contract range. He can bet on himself and try to back up the season he is having now by playing at a similar level next season and having impending FA status up his pay check, but he could also lose money that way.

There is too much AAV in these 4 guys bottom line .. we need a 1G and a 1D .. Mitch ain't getting 11M per anywhere else period .. he maxs at Kuch end of story .. JT can't skate and is only a down low player now with limited D ability (if he wants 6M don't et da door hit ya in da *ss my friend) .. Matty will get a little more than MACK although he shouldn't .. and Willy has more skills then everyone else on team and it is not even close really

Right now his comparables, I guess would be the most recent signings of Horvat, Larkin and Pasta.

Horvat signed for 8.5M AAV at 10.3% of the cap. Nylander is a better player than Horvat.

Larkin signed for 8.7M AAV at 10.55% of the cap. I would say it's very debatable whether or not Nylander is better than Larkin. This is probably Willy's closest comparable.

Pasta signed for 11.25M AAV at 13.64% of the cap. Pasta is clearly the better player and top 5 winger in the game.

Timo Meier is a guy who is rumored to be somewhere in the 8.5 - 10M range and is a similar calibre player to Willy.

The only other comparables I see that are free agents the same time as Nylander are Aho and Guentzel. I would think he will likely be signed to a similar cap hit as Guentzel. I just realised i was looking at the wrong year for the projected 92M salary cap. For the 2024-2025 season it's expected to be 88M. If we use Larkin's cap hit % and apply it to the projected 88M cap, that puts Willy at 9.28M. He is on pace for 97 pts this year and if hits around that or over 100 next year, he very well could be looking at 10+M.

wasn't happy seeing what Larkin signed for , was hoping we could get Willie for around 8.5 - 9 on a max term , still might depending on if he wants to be here

Mathews i'm guessing we have to match the deep pocketed Yotes standing offer of 20% of the cap .
He can sign for the yotes for that kind of coin. We can then sign McDavid
