For a while I wanted Suzuki but it may be too much for him right now given his age. Esp. since he is talented but not a franchise guy so that maybe putting too much pressure on him if he goes on a lethargy. Then there's the mindset of a transitional captain of Edmunston before Suzuki gets ready. That may be the way to go.

I also wanted Power Horse cause he doesn't have the pressure of scoring cause he has other elements to his game. And I love someone with some physicallity as a captain. Plus he has the right age of not too young, not too old. But the issue is that inconsistancy and injuries. Also his determination is great but a hot head captain, not sure. Maybe the captain is not someone we have right now.

Honestly, I don’t think now’s a great time to name one. I don’t think Gallagher is a good choice. I hate the idea of adding even more pressure on Suzuki…

I’d just leave it for now.

Evans needs to be taken in consideration. He's captain material since he was one everywhere he played. He's also well respected in the room and will always leads by example. From the 7th round to Montreal canadien Captain, i would dig that story.

I think Suzuki is the obvious choice. Gallagher has said before he's not really interested. I think you name Suzuki captain at the start of next season and begin the rebuild around him. (Normally you go goalie out, but who the f knows)

Byron is not on the poll probably because he's been off the radar this year, but he's probably my number 2 pick after Gallagher.

- Long tenure with the Habs
- Has persevered through waivers and injuries
- Already an alternate captain
- Hard worker
- Well liked and respected guy
- He's a team first guy. Never complain about his usage. Play responsible hockey. Coaches love him.
- While not mandatory for a captain, he also happens to speak French
- Won't be traded because of his contract

Sounds like a nice profile for a transition captain to me.

The more I think about it, the more he'd be my #1 pick.

The only choice is Suzuki. It can't be anyone else. It would in fact be foolish to choose anyone else considering the changes that are coming to this team.

To be honest , the only reason he’s not on the poll is because I forgot he even existed.

Totally disagree. It's much too early to identify who's gonna be the leader and centerpiece of an emerging Habs team. It’s too much unecessary pressure to put on the shoulders of such a young player, to be the leader of a team that's gonna be bad for a few years.

We need a transition captain. A veteran who has nothing to prove. And when the Habs finally have enough core pieces to be good again, then you name a long term captain.

My top 4 picks :

1- Gallagher or Byron
3- Edmundson
4- Toffoli, if he wants to be part of this

The captain of an NHL team needs to have respect for the NHL officials,

Also,

The captain of an NHL team needs to be respected by the NHL officials,

Gallagher doesn't qualify for either of those,
It's preferable but not an absolute need. My choice is none of them, if a player in the mold of Perry, Panarin or Letang is signed this summer, he would be the next captain.
I would go with Gallagher even if refs are p*ssed of him. F the refs.

Says everything really (not talking about Primeau ofc). Plus he doesn't whine about tough time ahead unlike some of his competition for the C.

It really depends on Gorton/Hughes opinion/talks with Gallagher, is he willing to stay during an obvious rebuild and do they see him as an interim captain? There are too many unknowns to wright him off and f**k the refs.

If 14 wants it, he needs to show more determination. All I see is a guy following the parade (i.e. following the bad example set forth by the vets).
