I still think our biggest problem is lack of skill and talent. So I'm ok with moving any vets for real genuine young talent in a real rebuild.

For example, as soft as Drouin is, I think it's his lack of talent that hurts us most. Sure he has skills, but it's his lack of hockey sense that causes him to turn the puck over more than lack of size. Even at his size, if he had hockey sense, he would know how to maneuver along the boards to not constantly turn the puck over ...

you will win the tougher games, the playoffs matchups.. with guys like Anderson. Drouin wasn't here last year and the team didn't skip a beat, says a lot about what players you want.

I hope its Anderson, only because I'm going to hate the new GM as much as the old one if they trade him for another soft small player. Please don't trade Anderson, build around players like this, give him and A or C
I like Anderson and he should get an A, I just don’t like the idea of giving the C to a goal scorer.

Drouin Sucks. But we could use a Patrick Kane, or even a Granlund - almost point per game this year and a play maker.

I just want talent - and not a bunch of shooters and no playmakers. Dvorak and Poehling have good size. But Suzuki is our best center. We need one more talented center like him - and more talent up and down the lineup.

Suzuki is not ready, a captain is someone that needs to be consistent and have a presence in the locker room. Dont love our options but if the ones we have, maybe Eddy, Gally 2nd choice but think he may need to be traded preferably plus refs don’t like him.

I may have misheard but I thought hughes mentioned there will be a captain next year.

I found it to be a puzzling thing to say especially when he admits that he still needs to get know the guys and evaluate. How does he know that there is a strong candidate on the roster right now, and even if he thinks there is, how does he know at this point if he will be part of the team next year at this moment?

I look at that list, and I don't see any option that looks like it's a "no brainer" choice right now.

I would like to see management live up to the hype of thinking out of the box and nominate Price, the only true captain material on the team.

Do a captaincy rotation for now.
Would be cool to see Byron with the C for a few games.

It's clear to me though that there's no true captain on this team right now.

You did not mishear, as mentionned in OP Hughes said there will be a captain. Not this year because he does not know what the roster will look like.
He also gave examples of Bergeron who had Recchi teach him to be a leader and Lecavalier who had other vets too ( forgot the names)

It's been done before. Coincidentally, it was another agent turned GM that was behind that idea when Luongo was named captain in Vancouver.

Although, I don't think he was ever officially recognized as captain by the league. I believe there's a rule against that.

Joel Edmundson is the perfect candidate. Gallagher should be traded, that's why he isn't going to be captain.

With the young D-man we have, Edmundson is going to be a leader for the future of that potentially dominate defensive group with Romanov, Guhle, Mailloux, Struble, Harris (if he sign) and maybe Jiricek or Nemec.

At forward, Suzuki isn't ready and like Hughes say he need great leader to help Suzuki to become a futur great leader. Toffoli is maybe that type of player who can be a really good leader for Suzuki.

For the time being i'd say none. We don't have a player i'd name captain. Anyway Weber has not officially retired yet so he's still the captain technically.

At the moment no one. Suzuki has the rest of the season to show something and who knows what's going to happen in the off season.

Yeah, I can't vote on this. If we trade out all the bad contracts, then Suzuki would make sense, but if Gally is still around ... having Suzuki as a captain when Gally and Price and Byron and Petry are there is kinda weird and would probably not be good for Suzuki's development.

It's impossible to know which vets are still going to be around to start the next season so I'd have a hard time picking anyone. Suzuki then I guess, since we know he'll be there. Gallagher is the obvious choice but I 100% expect him to get traded at the deadline.

We also have a captain in Weber and although I know the speculation is that he will never play again, I think that until that is settled, we won’t make that move. I 100% expect Weber to retire and forgo the rest of his contract, or for his contract to be traded, so until that happens, we stay in captain limbo.

Where Suzuki is seen as a leader? He is not really a goal scorer with his 8 goals, his stats are in the minus (-16) and he is the leader of the worst hockey team. Is anyone have insides infos that he such a leader?

I think he is chosen because we dream he will be great, we think he is a great leader when in reality we don't have a clue. Let's not make the Pacciorety mistake again. If there is no leader able to be the captain, well, there will be none.
