hcanes signed some random plymouth whaler "carter sandlak". looking at stats he had an incredibly mediocre (at best) junior career before breaking out as an overager getting lots of ice time on a terrible team. pretty much just throwing away contract spots on these guys at this point.

oh and he's the son of a former nhler. this organization really couldn't get any more predictable

edit: oh lawd i didn't even notice that his dad played for the whalers while JR was gm loool.

Carter Sandlak was a guy I kept somehow ending up with in the fourth/fifth(?) round of the draft in NHL13 on pretty much every Be a GM I ever did.

Pretty nice play at #3, 1:11 if you can't make it through this music

Who would choose that song for hockey highlights.:laugh:

The positive here is that the org. decided to go out and spend the $110k to sign this guy rather than waiting and inevitably burning a 4th-round pick on him at the draft. Good sign for an ownership/gm that generally give away picks to save cash and not the other way around.

edit: Never mind, he's too old to be eligible... no wonder they spent the $$

Jim sandlak. Yup, he was a whaler for little bit. Wasn't the strongest connection but who knows if he had a deeper relationship with us off the ice. His dad was a decent player for a bit, I think for Vancouver. Don't recall him making much of an impact with us. He was a power forward who didn't have much left, wasn't the biggest scorer.

Another thread that causes me to lose faith in humanity.

Apparently Amber Jaye interviewed jr and they put it on canes vision but I can't get it on my ipad. Twitter said they may talk about some trade topics with jr. Anyone see it? Anything actually covered?

Yeah I watched it, was pretty vague. JR basically said that we won't see either them on waivers and barring injury we'll see a trade in the next week.

Said he was happy with all the acquisitions they made during the offseason, was disappointed with the production of the regulars.

Sandlak's a bit of a weird signing, but we could use more size in the system. Not like we won't be shedding some guys like Tochkin, Kivisto, Westgarth, etc. from our contract list heading into next season anyhow. If JR's going to keep pissing away mid-late round picks might as well roll the dice on guys as free agents.

"14. After a three-win week over the Washington Capitals, Predators and Sharks, Rutherford pulled back his attempts to make a trade."

good to know jr is basically a reactionary hfboards poster at this point

That's a real problem for him. He decided to keep one or two of our "we like our group" core because of a three game winning streak, that came after a two game losing streak and was followed by another two game losing streak. If your core has failed to make the playoffs for 4 years and counting, you make changes to your core. Three straight wins vs four straight years is not a wash, Rutherford.

I think it's pretty clear, not just from that quote but from the preponderance of the evidence over the past several months, that JR is truly desperate to get us into the playoffs this year.

He's not making trade decisions with rebuilding in mind, he's just trying to get this team to catch fire and get into playoff position while the door is still open.
