Hmm, apparently I don't know as many obscure details about random people as I thought. Guess I need to start hanging out with Tripp and learn how he does it. :sarcasm:

Quick -- what brand of TV does my roommate have in his room?

But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would have a roommate that would have a Panasonic? Now, a clever man would buy a Panasonic, because he would know that only a great fool would buy a TV of inferior quality. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly assume it is a Panasonic. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly assume it is not a Panasonic.

Because your username comes from Canada, as everyone knows, and Canada is entirely peopled with Canucks, and Canucks are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me, so I can clearly assume that you are not assuming that it is not a Panasonic.

Wait till I get going! Now, where was I? Yes, Canada. And you must have suspected I would have known your usernames origin, so I can clearly not assume that you would not assume that it is not a Panasonic.

You're are a giant of a poster, which means you're exceptionally strong, so you could be assuming I'd think it is a Panasonic, But, you're also in College, which means you must have studied, and in studying you must have learned that Panasonics are very reliable TVs, but expensive, so I can clearly not assume that it is a Panasonic.

IT HAS WORKED! YOU'VE GIVEN EVERYTHING AWAY! I KNOW WHAT KIND OF TV IT IS.

Surprised you didn't throw a "Tort reform" line in there for good measure.

Sounds like we're getting the making of a pretty good sitcom here: "'Torts Law'. Scrappy lawyer by day, scrappy hockey coach by night. You'll laugh, you'll cry."

I was hoping JacquesStrappe would respond to what I had said, but this is pretty amazing.

The answer is that he doesn't have a TV in his room.

RALEIGH, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes today announced that Eric Staal has been selected by his teammates as Carolina’s nominee for the 2013-14 King Clancy Memorial Trophy. It marks the fourth time that Staal has been nominated for the honor, which is annually awarded to the NHL player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy contribution in his community.

Not really concrete evidence of anything, per our conversation the last couple of days. But still interesting.

I assume the theory of many of you is that Staal threatened the team's families and friends to gain votes...

Flys in the face of whoever it was that said Staal isn't active enough in the community.

Frankly it's kind of sad that a guy who is virtually invisible in the outer community is our Masterton nominee.

So he sponsors a suite and shows up to team fundraisers. That's nice, but it's also a pretty minimal expectation for a team captain.

What exactly do you expect from him? I'm genuinely curious what else he's supposed to do to win your community approval.

Going to team fundraisers is part of the 9-to-5 of his job as the captain. It is literally spelled out in their contracts that they are expected to so that sort of thing.

Sponsoring a suite is, as I said, a nice thing to do. It's essentially spending some of his hard-earned paycheck and signing a few tshirts.

Typically, Clancy candidates are seriously involved in charity and community work. I don't think Staal quite fits that description, but it's just as much an indictment of the rest of the team that none of them seem any more dedicated to this community than he is.

a little thing that I've noticed but think is important is how Semin seems to interact with the kids, giving them pucks and stuff. is it really so darn difficult for these players to do that or hand a darn stick over once in a while? how bout at the very least high fiving those poor little kids with their out stretched hands going on and off the ice? I don't know what they all do or don't do, but there are probably a ton of things, large and small, that they could and should be doing. things are different now days I guess.

So, one of the big projects I've been working on lately is a complete "family tree" of the Eric Lindros trade. I've worked it out for every team and will roll it out on the main board soon, but will drop the Hurricanes folks here first.

Finally posted the main board thread: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1644263

At the 11th hour I made a handful of Hurricanes additions -- namely Mark Recchi and Craig Adams, along with Krys Kolanos, Marek Malik and Darren Langdon.

That's just nuts Tarheel. Strong work!

I'm so old, I remember so many of these trades. Kinda sad actually. I remember being annoyed with Quebec for trading duchene, he really made them so much more dangerous on the pp.

I can't imagine ever seeing another trade that so drastically changes a teams fortunes for the positive. It basically added a second line including defense and a starting goalie to an already a talented and young team. They were in one day a significantly better team.
