Bad reffing aside, what I find funny is that if you just read the stat line/penalty description:

3 - CHA Boychuk, 8:33 - Goaltender interference, 2 min (PP)
3 - CHA Boychuk, 8:33 - Unsportsmanlike conduct, 2 min
3 - CHA Boychuk, 8:33 - Fighting, 5 min

You picture him going to the dirty areas to score, running into the goalie, getting into a shoving contest/sticking up for himself and eventually dropping the gloves. It has a feeling of "Toughness" to it.

When you watch the replay, you see him clipping a goalie who came way out of the crease, then turtling and getting pounded on.

If my math and understanding of how AHL/NHL contracts work, Boychuk is going to make an extra $5,325 tonight because Bowman has the flu.

In that case I fully expect him to miss $5,325 worth of golden opportunities nearly gift-wrapped to him. Still, $5,325 for that's a bargain. We pay E. Staal WAY more than that for that level of performance issues.

I honestly think that was the best trade that JR's ever made other then the ones that resulted in us eventually winning the cup (Brindy, Weight, Hedican, Recchi).

That may be a foregone conclusion with all the potential changes that are in line. Brooks tends to be sensationalistic generally though.

Ps bah! Said exactly the same thing as wtf at the same time but the post showed up second. I fail.

Larry Brooks reporting in the NY Post this morning that Muller will be fired at the end of the season.

I wouldn't be surprised. I don't think it's the right move, but typically an incoming GM wants "his guy" to start out the process. Not always (recent situation in Buffalo, for example) but most of the time.

I don't know if it's the right move, but I don't think it's really a bad one either. There's going to be a pretty massive shakeup throughout this org, and that's a good thing.

Massive might be overstating it, particularly if Francis is simply Rutherford, only younger.

I was told, to your point, that Rutherford has put everyone out there except the Staals. Which is not really the shakeup *I* would look to do, but really the only one that's possible.

Re. ADubinchuk's comment about Garrioch and Semin - I used to think that about Garrioch too, but have found that his sources are vast throughout the league. Surprised me...but it is what it is.

Also, we have a vastly more positive view of Semin than a lot of the rest of the league. One personnel guy: "what about compete level, what about second effort. In four viewings this year, effort was a definite issue."

That surprises me.

That still taken into account, if the first thing Francis does is buy out a deal with 4 years and $28 million left, the contract of one of just a few guys on the team that can actually score, hire Rutherford back. We can't take losing him, even if he's not worth $7mil. Not to mention we couldn't take the cap hit of the buyout...

Oh the buyout comment TOTALLY comes out of left field for me too. He's like the 20th biggest problem on this team.
