Fasth's contract isn't all that crazy when you consider his past few years in Sweden.

Add to that the fact that this trade could be insane value in a year or two, and at the very least, you have a 2.9 million dollar back-up which is bad, but it's not that bad with how high the cap is.

Yes Wilson, and Burke to Buffalo wouldn't be a shocker.

How about Brent Sutter? He did **** up in Calgary, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a shot somewhere.

How long before we start hearing about Cryan Miller on his way out too? There was a lot of talk about him being sent away during last season. Ruff wasn't even being brought up then.

Is Brian Rolston even officially retired? There's a bunch of guys that aren't playing this year that I don't think announced their retirement. Brian said he likely will retire, but never officially confirmed.

Dwayne Roloson has also not officially retired. He also turned down a coaching job with some minor league team during the lockout because he still wanted to play. When the much younger, and arguably more serviceable Brent Johnson and Ty Conklin are out of work, then there's a good chance you will not find work if your Roloson. Wanted to make a grandpa joke about him, but I met him and he was real cool!

Jason Arnott is likely another one who's done.

And Burke/Wilson are already in route to Buffalo.

Why would they let Darcy fire Lindy if he was just going to get the axe too?

Brian's brother haha.

I wonder if this is an interim thing?

If they're bringing the guy up from Rochester it probably is for the rest of the season at least. If they were going to do a true interim coach (a few games before someone gets appointed) it'd be someone already on the staff.

I won't take your word for it, but I think players like Vanek, Pominville, Hodgson, Ennis, Foligno and Stafford would benefit from the system Sutter ran when he was here.

Hodgson and Stafford are awful skaters. Ennis is a Tedenby clone, but actually gets points. Vanek isn't a particularly great forechecker, he's more of a cerebral Elias-like player that relies on positioning. Foligno and Pommer would probably do well, though, and actually having legitimate PMD's would be a great asset Sutter hasn't had before.

But, Vanek is European so their best player would be in Sutter's doghouse by default.

The problem is Darcy doesn't know how to evaluate talent. Every so often he rips off another team and people applaud how shrewd he is, but conveniently forget the awful contracts he's handed out and the contracts he DIDN'T hand out. He's basically a poor man's Sather, but one that stays married to his players instead of bailing on them at the first chance.

Some of my Lightning fan friends think Boucher could get the axe. I don't think he will. At least not this year. They think he could get the axe, and wind up in Minny when Yeo gets canned.

Wow, talk about a quick trigger pull.

Ducks extend Fasth for $5.8 over 2 years.
He of 8 NHL games played.

Edit - This will probably wind up being a pretty solid deal in the long run. I'd still want to see more games out of him. Safe over sorry and such.

That does seem really soon for that. I guess they really like what they've seen. And two years isn't a really onerous length if he ends up sucking.

So today's the day this finally happens:

Buffalo Sabres ‏@BuffaloSabres
Darcy Regier announced this afternoon that Lindy Ruff has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres. More to follow.

Shocking stuff. That makes Trotz the longest tenured coach in the league now, right?

I'd be surprised if he gets fired. I think his credit is still good for another year.

I don't think Boucher will get fired either. I think their defense is the problem down here. It needs a lot of work. It doesn't matter who the goalie is there. And yup Trotz is the longest tenured now.
