Having nine or ten 'playoff' teams out of fifteen is a little much. The NBA has 8/15, the NFL has 6/15 and MLB has 5/15. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel just because you feel you need to give the fans something else new coming out of another lockout. The game is fine, it's the people running the game that need to go.

At this point I'm just hoping tomorrow's offer from Fehr is SOMEWHAT in the realm of reality or we'll have 0/15 playoff teams this year.

Funny how the players don't seem to realize their constant bloodletting for every last dollar is the reason we're constantly having lockouts. While the other sports which have HRR splits more favorable to the owners don't lock out, or at least not for long.

Why? This season would already be 'different' with the shortened length although I'd prefer not tinkering with the playoffs since then people really will be able to discredit a Cup run based on a different playoff format (at least in '95 it was the same format). At least it wouldn't be a permanent switch.

Plus I don't get the logic of needing to keep more teams in it. It's a 48-game season, more teams ARE going to be in it anyway

Just want to squeeze every last ounce out of the teet of the NHL. Pretty sad. I don't care though. Just give me a season and I'll be happy.

I think the league's latest offer is probably pretty palatable for the NHLPA. But if you look at it from their side, the longer they've waited the better the deal has gotten. So do you start working off the latest deal, or do you wait just a little bit longer to see if you can get more? It's a really high stakes game of chicken they're playing. I just hope one side or the other flinches, or it's going to be one hell of an ugly wreck.

I know just leave it as is. **** all these changes seriously. Now I'm hearing a 2 team expansion in the next couple years. I don't wanna see any fans lose their team even though I don't like all the expansion. As far as new teams go enough is enough already. And this playoff format just leave it alone seriously.

I don't like this quote. Sure, it can mean "we'll submit an offer the NHL can't refuse", but with Beetlejuice on the driver's seat it more than likely means "we're gonna go for the jugular and you're gonna like it". Oh well. We'll see today.

Guys who were undrafted UFAs tend to be more "loyal" to the teams that gave them a shot.

Andy Greene definitely proved he wanted to stay, and said he took a discount to stay with the Devils. That was awesome of him, and he was an undrafted player. Aside from the fact he's awesome I would never wanna trade him just because of that. That was a nice gesture him staying. Especially after the teams worst season in 20 years, and all the uncertainty with not knowing who would be coach or what direction the team would move in at the time he re signed.

This made me laugh:

The players were happy to get an offer Thursday, but they weren't completely pleased it was almost 300 pages, accompanied by a drop-dead date of Jan. 11 to get a deal in place and the season starting on Jan. 19.

Look, I'm a slow reader, but I can read 300 pages in a single day if I had to. Yes it would be boring, but with the proposal potentially being your last before they cancel the season, I think I can find time to actually read and analyze it. Hell they can do it over 2 or 3 days. That still gives them a week to discuss terms you're unsure of and even make minor compromises/negotiations.
