DEVILS ALL THE WAY*

So - do you guys think that without Torts's system, that the Rags' defense gets exposed for how thin it really is after the top 3?

I'm not pointing you out but I've seen the same comment in the past couple of pages and I find it pretty ironic that we're questioning the Rangers blueline when ours isn't all that better.

They basically have what we had for close to 5 years now... A superstar goaltender with one or two solid blueliners and 4 average defenders that play a positional game.

To me, that looks alot like us when analysing our team for the past 5 or 6 years, does it not?

It really is pretty wacky when you look at how similar we are to them. The way both teams are built with the inability to get consistent offense and having to rely on the goaltender. I don't think were quite as bad as them when it comes to offense besides for this 48 game mess we just had. Last year we were solid and then who lost our depth like they did and went in the toilet. There D is probably better than ours right now but not by much. The Islanders might be in better shape moving forward then both of these 2.

Actually our D's are somewhat different. They're top-heavy, we're depth-heavy. They have a couple of guys miles better than anyone we have - but their bottom-pairing guys aren't nearly as good as our depth guys. Harrold would probably be the #5 defenseman on that team (granted he was in the top six the second half of the year here too, but that probably doesn't happen if Fayne wasn't battling injuries).

This.

I think I point out the Rangers because Staal and McDoughnut are studs, Girardi is good - but DelZ is a basket case, Strahlman couldn't make our 9th Dman, and <insert whoever else here> is basically the scapegoat for the next loss.

I think the problems are different. None of our Dmen are as good as their top 3, but all of them are better than their bottom 3. (including Volch, although I'm sure you'll disagree :)

Well if Larsson, Merrill, and Gelinas can pan out and Greene and Fayne continue to progress then were not too far off from what they have. That's a couple years from now though. Harrold is pretty much the equivalent to Stralman. Fayne and Moore are pretty similar. They don't have the crappy veterans that we have though. Boy do we need these young d-men to develop or else we could have some issues.

Strahlman isn't THAT bad. Him and Harrold aren't much different. Del Zotto and Zidlicky are pretty much the same player as well. Defensive messups out the pooper but can put up numbers.

btw funny thing about people complaining that they're unhappy Torts was fired cause now the Rangers could get a real coach, most of us to a man were saying the same thing after Renney was fired, cause we were afraid they'd get Torts lol

I completely forgot about that...makes me feel a bit better. Playoffs have been crazy. Not to long ago I was sure Julian would of been on the chopping block and Torts was so safe. Strange how quickly things change.

I'm gonna miss his post game stuff though.

He's so nasty to people I wouldn't be surprised if he sits unemployed for a while. The media figures wherever he's hired will be running for the door.

Stralman was playing like a top 4 guy before he got hurt. He eclipsed MDZ who regressed awfully as the playoffs continued.

Where did you gather this? I thought the running theory was Hank *****ed to Sather and had him chased out?

From the sources I read, this firing wasn't necessarily planned. Apparently, Tortorella was highly critical of the team's composition in the post-season meeting with management and they decided that was the final straw. Tortorella was supposedly shocked by the decision.

Matt Shaw should be the new head coach of the Rangers.

Woah wait a minute. You might be on to something there. What if the coach that Lou said might not be back that got a head coaching offer is Matt Shaw, and that head coaching offer came from...... the Rangers?

Sather needs to hire Messier

and I think Lundqvist played a large role in Torts' firing. He throws everyone under the bus after a loss, so I expect nothing less from him.

He screams this guy to me all over. They both have the same hair cut too or lack thereof.

Or his buddy Wayne who was a pretty ****in terrible coach himself.

Does Messier even have any coaching experience at all?

I can see them having a 10-11 like Devils season if they hire him as coach. At least Maclean was an assistant for about 6 or 7 years, and head coached with our AHL team. I can see him being a very poor coach, and I can see him having no system, and letting the players get out of shape like Maclean did.
Just imagine the Rangers PP with Shaw running it
I can see guys playing musical chairs already. Hell, I can see Lundqvist coming out to play the point, and rotating back and forth between his goal crease and back out over the blue line into the offensive zone.

Their PP already stinks. If you put two negative forces together, it might actually make a positive :sarcasm: :amazed:

Actually Shaw might be an upgrade to their PP. It was like 23rd in the league this year, and was like 9 percent in the playoffs. They doubled their PP goal count in the playoffs just in the last 2 games.

Shaw might be able to get them to 15%

Their PP was like 28th in the league most of the season, but experienced a surge after getting those guys at the trade deadline. Enough of a surge to get them to 23rd.

Kings won't be tendering a contract to 2011 2nd rounder Christopher Gibson. As I understand it, he would become a free agent rather than re-enter the Draft because he was a late '92 drafted from North America. At the time, there was a debate over who would be the better goalie/Gibson between him and Ducks prospect John Gibson.

Gibson, a native of Finland, apparently is headed back to begin his one year of mandatory service in the military. Given his lack of progress over the last two seasons, he might have a tough time landing a mandatory three year ELC at the moment. I can only imagine that the Kings used him as trade bait from the moment they drafted him.

I find it comical you guys are still blaming Shaw for our powerplay

I find it comical that you are even saying anyone is blaming Shaw for the power play.

Do you have a problem with my avatar?

Who in here was blaming him? We were just cracking jokes about him going to work for the Rangers.
