Okay, let's assume we can negotiate an extension and it would cost $8,750,000 a year (so Barzal isn't topped)

A) Do we wnat him at that number for 7 years at age 27?
B) No, we don't

What do we offer if A)

Beau (partial salary offset), 2023 1st, Raty and Salo for Horvat and Burroughs would be my thoughts
Sounds like a guy that just wants more followers- teams are trading a guy of that caliber during Christmas? January? Yeah, ok.

He was no trade protection, he’s cap hit is very digestible, he doesn’t get traded until Feb when there’s way more suitors and teams aren’t protecting every asset with 40 conditions.

If I am giving up the 2023 first rounder and Raty, plus a bit more, I want Vancouver taking Bailey back. Keep Beau and the speed. Sell Vancouver on the lower real $$$ that Bailey makes.

Crikey. Pens wins and Rangers to OT. No results going our way

If people want to talk about the Isles goaltending bailing them out, what about Pittsburgh? Jarry is doing just enough to win them a lot of games that they should be losing.

Not sure what we're being bailed out of other the inevitable reconstruction of a group who's day has, sad but true, come and gone. Might well be time to break up the band....

As I look at the grinch who stole another Christmas, getting more than 2 points on this 5 game junket seems like a reach

Jack Hughes couldn’t shoot to save his life a couple years ago. Now he’s a goal scoring machine. He improved his shot but he also creates and gets to the net. We need Barzal to do that.
Your the GM, do you swap Barzal for Hughes , given the opportunity ? I know it's fantasy but it's entertaining.

I am not worried. Parity rules in the NHL and it will all even out in the end. Lots of teams soaking up loser points now.

While I wish the Isles could kick the snot out of the Rags more often, there is something to be said about not having to grind out as many tough games against the rest of the Metro.

Just hope for good health the rest of the way, the development of the young vets on the Isles and the kids in the AHL. From there, let the chips fall where they may.

The Isles either add that big piece they are missing and turn it up, or hopefully they keep their first (or at least have it lottery protected) and draft a top prospect.

Hasn't that been the story of Jarry's NHL career? Looks great for stretches but could never put it all together for the playoffs.

For Hughes, the big question will be health, and a big part of that is protecting himself on the ice. Can he stay healthy, especially in the playoffs and after multiple grueling seasons? While not a talent or skill, availability is very important.

I like Hughes, but lets see him do it for a couple seasons and make a deep run or two? In every sport there are those exciting players who are great when on the ice but aren't always available when you need them. QB Kyler Murray in the NFL is a good example of just such a flashy player.

I am thinking the same thing. He has really been bailing them out most nights, stealing wins. Let's hope it even out over time.

Of course you do. Hughes has decision making/subtle deception abilities that Barzal doesn't have. He's better at changing speeds, making quick decisions.
I think Fitzgerald getting Erik Haula has opened up more room on the ice for Hughes to do his thing. The big bodies aren't getting near and laying out Hughes this season.

I agree, Devil fans are lucky to have a player like Hughes, he's got a nose for the net and is a skilled play maker as well having an outstanding Hockey IQ.
