I tuned in for the third period of the Rags game. Binnington, Blues PP and Barbashev all awful.I don't think Binnington is an NHL caliber goalie anymore
So… Basically Josh Bailey from earlier this year?
rags escaped. Both goalies were pretty poor
We'll be back in the lottery by ChristmasWe're back in the wildcard slot due to Pens winning.
Not only is he getting his points, he gets to live in OhioJohnnny Trademark going from a Top 6 team last year to a bottom 5 team. Zero goaltending, zero defense, and one tradeable UFA. But he’s getting his points! When do they bounce those lotto balls?![]()
In all seriousness I think the Isles are finding their level. Best case scenario, 3rd in the Metro. Otherwise, a bubble team fighting it out for a wild card spot. We'll be back in the lottery by Christmas
totally agree. i said we're a bubble team in pre season and still feel that way. not being able to score vs backup goalies all over the place is quite distressing, especially because it's now the norm. team is starting to look slow again (maybe i should say slowER?) and i'm worried about durability and pace as the next phase of the season comes upon usIn all seriousness I think the Isles are finding their level. The same. This was my opinion in training camp and they've done nothing to change my mind. Our streaky scorers (Lee, Nelson, Barzal-who never got hot, Tito, Pageau, Bailey) have cooled off again making goals hard to come by, and we play a style that invites teams to have at our goalies with more high danger chances in exchange for us generating more offense.totally agree. i said we're a bubble team in pre season and still feel that way. not being able to score vs backup goalies all over the place is quite distressing, especially because it's now the norm. team is starting to look slow again (maybe i should say slowER?) and i'm worried about durability and pace as the next phase of the season comes upon us

Who couldn’t see this coming ?
Regarding style of play agreed, we are stealing from Peter to pay Paul. Whatever transpired in the off season between coaches management and players has now resulted in a more offensive approach, abandoning to some degree the more defensive approach applied by BT. Trotz and Lou understood the limitations of the personnel and put forth a system that would maximize return. The new system places greater stress on our D and goaltenders. and while this is what many here called for, myself included we just don't have the superior skill and talent to win that game every night. This team is a bunch of workhorses being asked to run like racehorses. In an effort to put a competitive product on the ice as mentioned in earlier post to fill the new arena youth was sacrificed and so the cycle will continue an aging team winning enough games to peak fan interest of playoff glory but continually on the bubble. The same. The way we play will get us in the playoffs, most likely as a wild card. But for those thinking that’s when we’ll clamp it down and grind teams to death, you may want to check your expectations at the door. The way we rob Peter to pay Paul for some added offense, a first round matchup against NJ, Carolina, or Boston will have us out of the playoffs before you can say Jack Robinson.Regarding style of play agreed, we are stealing from Peter to pay Paul. I think if the Isles get in and Lou adds depth D and an offense fwd, they’ll do pretty well in the playoffs. So far, it’s looking like another year of crap D & G for the playoffs, so the Isles should be a top team in that department. The way we play will get us in the playoffs, most likely as a wild card. You can’t guarantee any asset flip is going to get you a Cup. The Palms traded certainly impacted the Isles going to the conference finals. Plenty of players and coaches that didn’t score a goal to win it and get into the finals.Let me state the obvious. This team needs speed and high level offensive talent.
They’re only forward that might have upside surprise as the season progresses is Wally. The rest of the crew will be +\- the same and God forbid there’s a major injury to Barzal or Nelson.
All of the above is just not enough to be a viable Cup contender. If they can get Kane and not give away multiple firsts with Raty or Dufour then I’m on board. We all know that doesn’t happen in Islanderland.
I just pray Lou doesn’t flip another first rounder for this year’s version of Palmieri. That mortgages the future and doesn’t get us to the promised land.
my version of the obvious is that we have absolutely no business worrying about what it will take to get a Stanley Cup. we should be hoping that we can make the playoffs. thinking that this team is Cup worthy is like those visions of sugar plum fairies dancing in my head. it's just a pipe dream with zero reality attached to itYou can’t guarantee any asset flip is going to get you a Cup. Playing the ‘we didn’t get a Cup, so don’t make a trade’ game is a fools errand. By all accounts, Lou got a strong ROI out of those firsts for JGP and KP.
Look at Dumbo in Toronto and Kokoloonie in CLB, got zilch out of their deadline deals. Same with powerhouse FL.
