Wow, thats apparently Letangs second stroke. First was in 2014, and they discovered he has a small hole in his heart.

Scary stuff, they'll probably put him back on blood thinners and hopefully he'll be back soon.

Its a good lesson that strokes don't just affect the elderly.

poor guy, so young. I wonder how common this is in younger and healthy people.
A lot of factors play into it....heart issues, blood pressure, stress management, lifestyle(drinking, smoking, narcotics), genetics

Probably more common than we think. Hope the guy is OK. I remember when he came back from 1st one. Shows a lot of courage and bravery to live with that day in day out, let alone play a rugged sport pretty effectively in an elite league

Scary indeed. If he is prescribed a “blood thinner” then that means something like Eliquis, Xarelto or warfarin (Coumadin). You can’t play contact sports on those meds due to bleeding risks.

If he’s not on those meds and only taking aspirin +/- clopidogrel(plavix) then if and when he recovers physically he could likely resume playing albeit at an elevated risk of bleeding.

I can’t see them putting him on warfarin, I know it’s obviously cheaper, but the amount of blood work needed is just annoying for a man his age and could potentially lead to non-compliance. This is a recurrent stroke. Can’t see them going ASA/Plavix. I would think he’ll need anticoagulantion. Unfortunately, I think he’s going to have to retire. Hope for the best for him and his family. Very scary for such a young man.

That's terrifying.
I don't know how many years back it was but definitely before his first stroke, I remember a workout video I saw of him it was outrageous.
He was wearing a weight belt with multiple 45 pound plates and doing pullups crazy for sure.

Granted we have a limited amount of info on the situation, but this is probably the best course of action. He's hoisted the cup 3 times and made his millions, no shame in riding off into the sunset and preserving your health at this point.

Great out of town night for us.

Pens win, Canes win, Tampa wins, Montreal wins, Caps winning, Panthers winning, Devils get a point
