Why would anyone want him not to?
The honest answer because some people have trouble reconciling with his behavior as a minor.

The answer I suspect you may be looking for… Is admitting the above is the true reason and not have him subjected to cancel culture. Rather he should be given an opportunity to overcome his past and be a productive contributor to our society.

The realistic reason… I don’t think most hockey fans cheer for some rando prospect from another team to necessarily do anything. Would be like a Kings fan conscientiously hoping for the best for Otto Koivula.

Only reason Miller is on any of our radars to begin with is for off-ice issues.

But ultimately, I do believe everyone has a right to make amends and try to live their best life… and all that other inspirational stuff that goes on posters.

Interesting…I wonder what other conduct would make someone not eligible for the NHL?

Is there an age limit? Statute of limitations? Is there a list of acceptable crimes or conduct?

From a legal standpoint, I can't see the NHL being able to simply ban this kid for a conviction that - in the eye of the court - came and passed while he was a minor.

In other words, the courts already dealt with him (including a charge and punishment) before he was an adult.

I'd be very curious to see if they can whip something verifiable up. Does anyone have something in mind?

If they can, then why didn't it prevent him from being eligible for the draft and then once actually drafted?

In addition, the NHL made no statement that I can recall when Arizona denounced him as a pick in the weeks thereafter... Meaning, nothing stating anything like what Bettman released yesterday:

INITIAL IMPRESSION:
Looks like this statement is little more than a quick image-related damage control measure in light of the social media shitstorm that errupted after Miller was signed.

Gotta think a few lawyers are chuckling about the timing and announcement of a "full investigation into a previous assault conviction".

I don't really feel like engaging with someone who can't have a real conversation. If you actually want to, then post your opinion on the matter instead of trolling like usual.
That's fine. I posted my opinion. I want people to succeed in life.

The answer I suspect you may be looking for…
I'm not looking for any answer. I want people to succeed in life. That's my opinion. I don't really care what other people's opinion is.

I'm not looking for any answer. I want people to succeed in life. That's my opinion. I don't really care what other people's opinion is.

But that's such a non-opinion and you aren't really discussing from a truthful place. We all want people to succeed, but situations are nuanced. Succeed to who's standards. I feel that some people have not earned that right to succeed. Or I guess more accurately, have lost their privilege to pursue that right. In most cases (not all), there are ways to regain that privilege. Let's be exaggerative -- if the kid shot up a school at 14, would we be saying "he's just 14 -- he should have a chance to succeed". Probably not, so where's the line? We could argue about whether this particular boy falls into the category of potential rehabilitation (because some do not), but that is ultimately trumped by all accounts pointing to zero work towards regaining that privilege, and a court magistrate felt the same.

What he did was heinous (torturing a mentally challenged child for the better half of a decade), and every single action and statement since then points heavily to a sociopath who's upset that his hockey career was derailed and not someone who truly is remorseful and has shown he's a better person.

Occam's Razor. Ball don't lie. Kid was given an ELC and max bonuses because he can play, and it's all about the money in the end. It's like an old football coach said once: If Hannibal Lecter could run a 4.3, we'd give him a contract and call it an eating disorder. That's why he was signed. Not for a redemption story. Not because he's improved himself. Not because he deserved it. Because he's a first round talent.

Is it your view that anything that differs from your opinion is untruthful?

That doesn't even make sense. I didn't even say your opinion was untruthful -- I said it was a non-opinion. It's my view that saying a platitude like "I want everyone to succeed" has no meaning and is not, in fact, engaging in discussion but is closer to the trolling you typically do? Evidenced by the fact that you didn't react to anything else in my post. Just your typical RDC shit. And thank goodness you didn't miss the opportunity to use this horrible story to do your cool internet thing.
