Those electric football games were like like razor blades if you put your finger between the game and the inside of the box. And they got hotter than sh*t. God forbid you leave a towel on it if you forgot to shut it off.
Anything goes was the way of life back then. The kids survived...most of them.
Including us! Barely in my case 😄

In my limited viewing of the WJC, it appears that the Rags prospects in Othmann, Sykora, Cuylle, Berard and Chmelar all take great pride in playing like dirt bags.

Borderline hits, kneeing, slew foots, etc. they are seemingly well on their way to Subban/Cooke levels of dirty play.

Othmann especially for all of his physical talent, seems to be showing a penchant for not listening to his coaches and is just constantly bouncing between in-game benchings and demotions.

Othmann reminds me of Jake Virtanen in that they both have immense talent yet have nothing in between the ears. Idiots who will never get it because they're dumb.

lambert a healthy scratch. He has been kind of invisible this tournament. Was expecting him to be flying around and creating things. Feel like the kid has no confidence and plays scared. Maybe a lot of pressure on him?

I heard on the broadcast that Finland was unhappy with some bad penalties and just sub par play. Not good.

Simon Edvinsson has been woefully unimpressive. The guy is so hyped and he has done nothing this tournament. I think I saw he had food poisoning or something, but for someone overhyped as the next Hedman... meh.

I don't think we have.

Ladd was a " well we lost Okposo and Nielsen and you don't have anyone that wants you, so come sign with us" kinda deal

This isn't really true, Okposo wasn't even offered a deal so Ladd was the primary target. Nielsen walking was unexpected though, everyone thought he'd stick around, including Snow.

Also, glad to see you're still alive!

If I recall correctly, Nielsen left as Snow was trying to lure Stamkos (which had zero percent chance). I do know that Nielsen was offered a deal pretty late, I think he may have felt dissed when Snow was chasing someone else and left him in limbo.

It always felt like Nielsen was going to stay, but as he waited for that offer he realized he wanted to test the waters elsewhere. He actually made a big mistake going to Detroit and he never sniffed relevancy again, but I don't mind that he moved on but he probably should've picked someplace else. He was an okay second line center, a good third line center, but wasn't never good enough come playoff time when the physicality picked up and you need your shut down guy to actually stop other teams.

Dufour is on the 1st line for Canada now!! YES! Really rooting for Dufour. I hope he proves everyone wrong and makes a impact at the NHL in a few years.

They're calling it "Canada's checking line" on the TSN broadcast.

For my taste, Dufour had one outstanding play in the game against Czechia, and looked like, well, a 5th rounder surrounded by a bunch of 1st and 2nd rounders the rest of the time.

Man was he fighting the puck.

And he seemed to skate miles when the situation only really called for taking it a few yards at a time and then edging out the opponent.

Gonna need to undergo a ton of refining once he's in Bridgeport.

Thanks for that take. I haven't been able to watch any of the games. Damn, now I'm depressed. LOL

Snow f***ed it up.

“I didn’t think I was going to leave, to be honest,” said Nielsen, who was drafted by the Islanders in 2002. “I always thought we would get a deal done. But I don’t have one bad thing to say about the Islanders organization.”

Nielsen said he pushed hard to agree on a new contract, but when negotiations dragged on, he had an opportunity to talk to other teams.

“That was the first time I ever thought about trying something else,” he said. “Before that, I did not want to leave. I never even thought about it.”

If Snow signed him to that contract that would have been effed up. He was done 3 years into it. Staple reported an Isles offer of 5x5. Wouldn't have been great either. A terrible year for UFA contracts.

I don't know if his career would've followed the same trajectory if he had stayed, if it had it would've been doubly awful since we had Ladd too.

A terrible year for UFAs agreed. Why people are complaining about a guy that was decent, but when it mattered in the playoffs he was an absolute non-factor. He also helped inflate the Isles deficiencies by helping to win a lot of shootouts. That’s great, but when playoff time comes he needed to have an impact in the 60+ minutes of real time. He didn’t.

I always thought Nielsen should have been shifted to the wing, to reduce wear and tear and, ideally, been tried with Tavares. Use Nielsen in the role Bailey ultimately inherited. Of course that would have required building up the center depth, in order to allow for that opportunity.

Well I see what you're saying, I kind of meant it like it was a save face move. Nielsen, Martin, And Okposo leaving and we had to land someone and we overpaid for Ladd. I don't think Ladd how many teams knocking down his door (could be wrong). It's sort of like we did with Lee vs Panarin a few tears ago. If Panarin signs, Lee is no longer a Islander and obviously gets less money/term elsewhere.

Not to mention his unbelievable penalty shot percentage was falling rapidly toward the end of his time here.

Man he spent a lot of time on lousy teams.

Got a notice that my ESPN+ subscription will auto renew at a 43% increase.

No thanks.

I’ll watch the handful of isles games, if they’re still doing them on ESPN+ this year, by other means.

Wow. No ability to hide score or start game from beginning and they’re gonna jack the price up. ESPN+ is garbage. I wish they kept NHL.tv
