Devils just fired Lindy Ruff. I still think their roster being very overrated is the reason why they've been mediocre this year (as opposed to coaching), but we'll see if the coaching change fires them up for the last 20 games.

If Fitzy gets a real goaltender he’s going to make Travis Green look like a genius.

Losing Severson and Hamilton certainly didn’t help. They’re remarkably weak in the net and the Toffoli trade looked good on paper but not so much now.

Between Jersey, Washington and Pittsburgh falling apart everything is going just like Lou planned. A few more Philly losses and with the proceeds from next year's first round pick, it’s only a matter of time before Lou will be relaxing with a smile on his face in his suite with a cuppa and biscotti.

We’re powerless against his life force so I’m just gonna sit back and enjoy it (I hope).

I'm surprised they did it now, should've happened way sooner. I felt like Roy coming in was too late as well because you only have so much time to implement something new.

They may be aware of their issues, but that doesn't change the fact that their core may just not measure up as a true backbone of a true Cup contender.

Hughes is a talent, no argument. He's a shrimp, it's a fact so he gets hurt and you can bully him. I see him as a modern Paul Kariya, both good and bad. Hischier is a really good #2, but is that really worthy of a #1OA pick? He seems to miss time regularly too. Luke Hughes looks good, but I don't see a true #1D workhorse there. They have no goalie, kiss of death. Goodnight.

The whole #1C/#1W/#1D/#1G combo of Horvat, Barzal, Dobson, Sorokin looks much better as a core to me and it's not particularly close.
I disagree. I'd rather have Hughes and Bratt. They are both better than Barzal and Horvat. The gap in the core comes with Dobson and Sorokin being miles better than anything the Devils have. That gap is bigger than the forward gap so Isles get the edge, but it's close imo.

Fitzy made a bunch of roster missteps, down goes Ruff. That Meier contract was unnecessary considering they knew they were losing defense and still have questions in goal.

Ruff is nothing special, but the younger GMs sure suck taking a team to the next level and filling up the cap with unnecessary players.

Probably bc of the injuries bought them time and Fitzy pursuit of a goaltender failed, so he takes the coach out to push the excuse out - he made bad roster decisions.

Maybe Devils ownership wants Lou back as GM? I’d be happy to see his career come full circle,

Lou’s time on the Island has run out.

People were going crazy over the Devs getting Toffoli, like it put them over the top or something. Meanwhile, he's a one-trick pony who addressed none of their real problems. If I were a Devs fan, I'd be less concerned about the coaching and more about Fitz making a move like that.

This goes back to the same problem. Fitz walked into a developing team with core assets. Now, it’s his job to execute the next level of elevating that team. He made some poor choices and filled up his cap space with those moves, despite known weaknesses in D and G.

I mentioned it last year, but the devils gained a ton of points in OT and SHO. They were able to take advantage of their speed. A year later, teams have scouted this and know what to do.

And the Hamilton deal was a nice move, but gotta question why a guy has been so dismissed by teams looking to win.

Fitzgerald wasted resources without addressing the gaping hole in his lineup. Ruff takes the bullet for him. They have given up the first goal in 44 of their games. Tendies are awful.

From what I've read, he's a good guy and a good teammate, but he's introverted and soft spoken. It's at odds with hockey culture, which tends to be brash and rah rah oriented. So, coaches and GMs find him an odd fit into their perception of team culture.

That’s a wild stat. Tough to play from behind all the time..

Philly only getting one point at home against St Louis is a pretty good result I’d say.
3 games in hand on both phi and TB and 6 pts back. They are in the mix. Maybe they get hot a go for a run. I feel like they need some more depth scoring. I feel like they can get hot for a bit but once the top line dries up a bit it will be tough to compete.

I still remember that story that came out a few years ago about Hamilton, how he likes to go to heaven forbid Museums. lol
