Devs outshot ANA 55-23 and lost 4-3 in regulation. Devs were 2 for 4 on the PP, ANA 0 for 2. ANA outhit the Devs 28-10.

I thought going into this season that the Devs' problem was that they weren't built for the playoffs, but I figured they'd have a great regular season. They've got some issues that need to be worked out. And I don't think it's just goaltending.

A good goalie and a good defensive defenseman would go a long way for them. Give them Pelech and Markstrom and they are easily in a playoff spot.

Maybe, but then you have the playoffs problem. I'm not sure they're close to being a team that can win four consecutive 7 game series. Probably no need to measure the rafters for another Cup banner just yet.

I almost would want to see TML face NJD in a playoff round. To see who most deserves the title of the early 2000s Ottawa Senators!

The Devils have an abundance of speed and skill that we covet for the Isles, but man... they are soft AF. Ice Capades doesn't fly in the playoffs, it just doesn't. Hughes seems to get nicked up a lot, no? Hischier too, I think. They need some Trotz-era Isles to balance them out to be legitimate. I don't believe in their core, they got unlucky to get the #1 overall pick in the wrong years.

They've got some issues for sure, but they had a lot of injuries to their star players earlier in the season that derailed them and have put them in this position.

They just picked up MacDermid to address some of their softness. Can't help but think it's directly related to Rempe coming up for the Rags and knowing they'll need some beef for the final push of the season. Not sure MacDermid will work but they seem to acknowledge one of the issues they have.

If Hughes can stay healthy he is a superstar, but that’s a big IF. Hischer never impressed me, thank God they didn’t pick Makar. I couldn’t imagine the firepower they would have. Meier has also failed to live up to expectations. I really wanted him here, glad we ended up with Horvat.

Hischier is a very good player but isn't in that top tier of NHLers. He's got a very well-rounded game and is definitely a player you want if you're trying to build a contender. He's had some health concerns at times too, right?

It’s very tough to get a good balance of skill and grit. Very few players offer both.

He is a very good player, but in comparison to most 1st overall picks I would say he is average at best. He is also very injury prone.

He's a perfect fit as a second or third best player who can alleviate some pressure and take tough assignments but isn't going to take games over himself.

They may be aware of their issues, but that doesn't change the fact that their core may just not measure up as a true backbone of a true Cup contender.

Hughes is a talent, no argument. He's a shrimp, it's a fact so he gets hurt and you can bully him. I see him as a modern Paul Kariya, both good and bad. Hischier is a really good #2, but is that really worthy of a #1OA pick? He seems to miss time regularly too. Luke Hughes looks good, but I don't see a true #1D workhorse there. They have no goalie, kiss of death. Goodnight.

The whole #1C/#1W/#1D/#1G combo of Horvat, Barzal, Dobson, Sorokin looks much better as a core to me and it's not particularly close.

Pettersson takes a discount to stay on a good team. Damn, Throttle promised he was gonna sign on the Island
Except, what I said was that if Petterssen’s negotiations went south bc Vancouver cheaped out, then I would line up to trade Barzal for him and the Isles pay Petterssen.

To me it was the implication that Pettersson would balk at signing with a top team, but would be happy to sign here of all places.

I agree. I'm just not sure Markstrom is a good goalie.

That is a roster that when healthy will make the playoffs every year. Once they get there I don't think they get past the 2nd round. That's a team that cries out for a goalie. Even a Semyon Varlamov would solidify their crease.

Nope, it was that Vancouver would not want to pay him since Vancouver has done weird things as an organization; he would balk at resigning, thus forcing a trade, he would have no say where he would go, but Vancouver would want a signed player in return such as a Barzal, Kyrou, Sukuzi, etc.

Don’t look now, but Carolina blew a 3-0 lead

in the third period, no less.
