It’s easy to build through the draft, damn hard to fill in with big moves. Another team that didn’t need that player. Now, they ate up all that cap space on an underperforming player with weaknesses in D and G. Oh well…

Dubas did the same. Blake in LA with PLD.

Yeah. Stacking a pipeline and putting together a lineup loaded with potential is the easy part. The last bit of alchemy to fine tune a roster that can win four series in a row is the really hard part.

Amazing we keep coming back to the 4 Cups; that's the outlier.

1978-79 - lost in the semis despite leading the league in goals for and second in goals against

!979-80
added Butch Goring, Ken Morrow, Anders Kallur, Duane Sutter, Gord Lane and Dave Langevin
That's QUITE a makeover for a team that edged the Canadians by a point for first overall the previous year and was 16 points better than 3rd place Boston. IMAGINE the uproar for this much turnover from this board!!! LOL.

1980-81
added Rollie Melanson, Brent Sutter and Billy Carroll

1981-82
added Tomas Jonsson, Greg Gilbert and Hector Marini

1982-83
added Mats Hallin, Gord Dineen and Mike McEwen

1983-84
added Pat LaFointaine, Pat Flatley, Kelly Hrudey and Paul Boutilier

You'll note we didn't stand pat . . .

What?

We suck and have had the least turnover in the league for an entire decade. Everyone here would love a bunch of turnover.

Different era. Fans view players through the lens of fantasy stats, video games, and lots of bs data.

I'd love to hear you explain the 'What?'
Sure. Your post draws a parallel between that scenario from the 80s and the Isles’ current predicament, by implying that Isles fans from HFBoards today would hate the type of turnover that occurred back then.

When in fact, the large majority of fans here are desperate for some kind of roster overhaul (either a retool or larger scale rebuild) which Lou so far has avoided despite the obvious on-ice ineptitude.

You also point out that the ‘80 Islanders had large scale changes even with the previous years’ success - whereas the current Islanders have had very little change with much less success.

Overall, it was a bizarre comparison and implication, and felt very much like a strawman. Hence my ‘What?’

If you haven't figured out by this point that this Forum wouldn't hate ANYTHING at this point, you've been using a bot for your responses.

There is NOTHING in the last two years that hasn't been HATED by a large number of people. Pretty much every game thread is 90% negative, even when we win! When we lose, it's 95+%, and when someone wants to point out a positive, it's basically MSNBC Trump Derangement level towards that person.

This Forum has become a CESSPOOL of hate, anger and disgust.

All about a sports team . . . not exactly the most important thing in ANYONE's life. We all want to see a winner; but it's about 39th on the list of what we should be concerned with.

Here's your strawman if you need a new Avatar . . .

Lou has an uncanny resemblance to another character in that movie. Coincidence?

One thing about Frank Morgan and that role is he played SIX different characters!

Wiki:
Morgan is best remembered for his performance in The Wizard of Oz (1939), in which picture he played a total of six roles, most notably the Wizard, which included the carnival huckster "Professor Marvel", the gatekeeper at the Emerald City, the coachman of the carriage drawn by "The Horse of a Different Color", the Emerald City guard (who initially refuses to let Dorothy and her friends in to see the Wizard), and the Wizard's scary face projection. Morgan was cast in the role on September 22, 1938. W. C. Fields was originally chosen for the part of the Wizard, but the studio ran out of patience after protracted haggling over his fee.

I guess the Screen Actor's Guild wasn't too powerful back then! LOL.

Interesting.

I’m sure I’ve now forgotten something important but I did learn something new.

Seems like Petterssen might not be long for reupping in Vancouver…hmhm, please be suckered into one Mat Barzal for trade purposes.

Interesting.

This is the power play my team uses regularly, even at 5-on-4. Goalies hate it.

Pretty much the most famous German coach ever (Hans Zach) was well-known for implementing it when he had teams featuring very good stickhandlers who were not terribly good skaters.

Not saying he was its architect or anything - just where I first encountered it.

I can see why it would drive goalies crazy. All that movement behind them.

The Islanders have added more behind the net play recently but still not enough. It's so tough to defend because every single player becomes a threat almost instantly. It creates passing lanes through most PK systems and it has the potential to allow every player to jump into a hole for a great chance.

Rooting for a TB regulation W tonight?

what happened? Was watchin TB feed when it cut out, replaced with technical difficulties and then a bunch of commercials for old people. Then switched to,Philly feed after realizing wtf is going on here, and they only loosely mentioned something about a power outage?
