Selfishly I wish he would have retired or been willing to go on LTIR. He clearly does not have it anymore. That being said I 100% understand his desire to still play in the NHL. He went from being a productive hockey player to falling off a cliff. Really goes to show just how quickly the game can pass you by.
One part of me was hoping he could make the team and last long enough to come in with the Sens at the end of October so he could get a tribute video from the Isles. The other part of me was amazed he even got a PTO from any team based on how he played last year.

A bit surprised he was released. Senators fans thought he was a lock to make the team, even though they had the same sentiments most of us had last year. He had a good pre-season from a production standpoint but I think most of it came from the PP where is isn't likely to get any time. We'll see if another team picks him up.

It’s crazy how fast he fell as a non-physical player.

He might actually stay if Djurgarden decides to just bench him endlessly. I like what we have with him after seeing the game against NJ.

Ironically, shortly after I wrote what you responded to, I saw (and posted in another thread) a Rosner article stating there's a chance he'll stay and play in BPort.

At the same time, I am a bit of a follower of the SHL and Allsvenskan, and can say that he was very much being reckoned with for a top 4 role by Djurgarden this season. The team is one of 4 or 5 clubs that is very serious about gaining promotion as well.

It was just DJ Smith (his junior coach) and Crapuano (Islanders Legend) doing him a solid.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see an Islanders press release that Bailey has announced his retirement and joined the organization in a player development role.

In all honesty though, Ottawa has 63K in cap space, Bailey was never going to get a deal. but Garrioch who’s Ottawa’s equivalent of Larry Brooks felt the need (or was paid by Bones?) to rub salt in the wound. :sarcasm:
I'm not sure if that one guy that missed most of last year is still injured, but if he is they can push him to LTIR. Plus, I'm guessing they're looking to move a player to get a deal for Pinto done. They need bodies at league minimum, really. Could be that Bailey wasn't willing to accept that as a deal.

I wonder if there was an injury that contributed to this. I agree that the decline was rapid.
IMO it's all normal aging. If there's anything that specifically contributed, it was probably the 2020-21 season + long playoff run that followed. If there's anything especially unusual, it's that Bailey's best years were from ages 28-30.

Sad to see Bailey let go. He still has skills and IQ that should land him on a bottom feeder. His skating has really dropped off.
He'd be an excellent skills coach.

Probably the hardest hit of the Covid guys. Rumor was he was hospitalized and very sick. Who knows. Regardless, I felt the mistake against TB and being exposed in the expansion draft took their toll as well.

Capuano didn't do him any favors when he was here btw.

He wasn't the strongest skater to begin with, so a drop in speed is more apparent.

When he was drafted he was compared to Mats Sundin. If only...

Honestly, I hope he gets another kick at the can; Parise played until he was 38. Bailey is 33, seems too early to end a career.

Josh Norris? Pretty sure he is good to go.

Edit: Wow, never mind. Looks like he reinjured the shoulder. Shite, he's on my fantasy league...

It's a shame he didn't see the writing on the wall and just went on LTIR. Had to give up a 2nd round pick just to dump his contract.

So... he should have anticipated struggling to find a roster spot and instead lied about being injured so the Islanders could save a 2nd round pick?
