I saw this on Reddit and thought it was worth posting. Red wings the only team that has their own plane.

A, owning a plane is not really a wise move. Most are leased through airplane leasing companies. B, owning a MD80, that’s a relic of a plane…(and is a fuel hog).

I was surprised that any team owned their own plane, to be honest.

The plane is shared between the Detroit tigers and red wings.

Sounds like the Illitch’s bought that plane awhile back and split it between the two teams.

Anyway, the cabins all the planes are swapped into business/first class-style seating, there’s no traditional coach seating.

I was surprised to see the MD80 there - any remaining in operation are probably used for cargo. At least they should be :)

This Redditor did the same list for MLB. The Detroit Tigers also use Illitch's Red Wings plane. No other MLB team has it's own plane. Also of note, only 2 MLB teams fly iAero, Texas and Oakland.

MD in MD80... McDonnell Douglass. They were merged with Boeing in 1997 and no longer exist. MD80 through MD90 variants stopped production shortly after. Boeing also had a run of B717-200's also built off of the MD80/90 platforms.

Older planes are constantly being phased out, but the new replacements are increasingly focused on composite material over metal. Due to being lighter for increased fuel efficiency.

Anyone else here an airline enthusiast? It's a small hobby of mine only.

Not a big fan of all of the boring twin-jets in euro white liveries in this day and age.

B747-200 and B727-200 in Pan Am meatball are still my favorite. Except maybe L1011-500 in just about any livery, especially Eastern Airlines white.

flown on a lot of MD-80 flights....always liked them...though can not remember the last time i have.

I'm sure there are all kinds of details, mechanical, electrical, computers, etc., that you can't see. But it is kind of funny that commercial airliners look pretty much exactly the way they did 50-60 years ago. Off the top of my head I can't think of any other technological thing like that.

One good thing about MD80 with the engines at the back is that the cabin is pretty quiet.

I was always partial to Gulfstreams. Each engine is almost as big as the fuselag. Also fan of military aircraft, SR-72 to C-17. On my bucket list is to get current and go to fighter jet school. Don’t think there are any that’ll get you faster than speed of sound though :)

Dallas Eakins was fired today after guiding the Ducks to 13 consecutive losses to end the season and get ANA the most ping pong balls for Bedard. IDK, seems like he did exactly what the owners and fans wanted, and he did it expertly. :baghead:
this is exactly the reason they fired him not earlier, he was the perfect guy for tanking but next year no tanking expert is needed anymore

Better lock up Chris Lamoriello, lots of suitors opening up for one of the brightest and up and coming minds in the hockey-sphere.
