Relieved of their duties

Such a shame.

I dunno, it'd be so nice if the Rangers had some openings for them.

Pens clean house.

Didn't new ownership come in a couple of years ago and ask Hextall for a written summary of the team's plan, and he told them there wasn't any. And then they let him run things for a while longer anyway? That wasn't such a good idea.

What a great picture to use. They look so confused
Actually, there were no photos where they didn't look confused.

At least Hextall was wearing his "intelligence" specs with the regular clear glass in them.

Hey, check out my plan from being the GM of Philadelphia - this ok?

To be honest, this has got to be a tough, tough job. And it will be even moreso for anyone who comes in.

You can't just walk in and start doing things that a Crosby isn't going to be down with. Obviously, they listened to what Crosby wanted and re-upped both Malkin and Letang last summer, among others.

A look a that line-up and the contracts shows that they're damned to continue trying to make it work with what they've got and a bit of tweaking.

As outsiders, let's be honest... If they get goaltending, they should be right back in the playoffs next spring. There were plenty of games this season where that group of goalies grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory.

I know there are other things they can work on and start doing better, but another 4-5 wins this year via stronger goaltending and they'd be in there - and likely pretty confident.

That's just MHO.

Anaheim has 25% odds at selecting number 1 overall and at worst can drop to 3rd.

If CLB gets a point tonight, they drop from 1 to 4…wow.

As a Pens fan, you're not wrong with any of this, but while I think we make the playoffs next year with better management I don't think we'll do anything once we get there. Sully isn't gonna get it done in the playoffs any more. Too stubborn.

But we probably do make it this year with a GM who doesn't totally bomb the trade deadline like Hextall did.

Also depends how guys age. Crosby 36 next year, Malkin 37. If they decline at all, we're doomed regardless. If they can maintain a similar level of play and our next GM doesn't bomb this off season, we get in I think.

Good luck in the playoffs.

Dallas Eakins was fired today after guiding the Ducks to 13 consecutive losses to end the season and get ANA the most ping pong balls for Bedard. IDK, seems like he did exactly what the owners and fans wanted, and he did it expertly. :baghead:

He should get a rev share for that, considering if the franchise gets Bedard, one can add $250M to their valuation in 2-3 years and an easy $100-150M revenue in 5 years.

Rutherford left that place dry, Hextall is ineffective as a GM and created a bigger mess, Burke is useless and this version of the game has passed him by.

Hello Dean Lombardi?

Pretty sure Burke was on Spittin' Chiclets a couple years ago and talked about how the Penguins needed to start looking towards the future because Crosby's era has been milked for all it is worth. Then he's hired by the Penguins and they do nothing but keep going for it. I have to assume it's just a directive from ownership and nobody taking that job has any real autonomy.

They've had issues in net dating all the way back to Fleury and Murray battling for the job, messing up every step of the way after their back to back cups. How Jarry is still the goaltender of what the Islanders did to him, and what we've seen from him since, is mind blowing to me. Their star players are often injured and they don't have the depth anymore to make real runs.

Maclellan is really killing it there. Fourth coach coming?

The directive is to get Ovi his record w/o really wearing down the players, including Ovi.
The Capitals are being held hostage by Ovechkin’s record chase. They will have to keep throwing patchwork fixes at this i stead of rebuilding the team the right way and replacing the aging vets.

Kind like what Lou is doing to the Islanders now without a homegrown Cup winning Hall of Famer to cater to.:sarcasm:

I would say the owner is the ring leader on that. Ovi’s record chase has 2-3 more years of revenue in it, even if the team is on the bubble.

PIT traded Jared McCann to TOR in July 2021 for a 7th round pick and Filip Hallander, who has played 3 games for them since then. I assume that was done in anticipation of the expansion draft a few days after the trade [was McCann then selected by SEA from TOR?]. McCann had 27 goals last year for SEA and then 40 goals this year. He'd have helped. Or even if they had traded him sooner and maybe gotten two 2nd round picks. ;)

Here's to hoping San Jose wins the first overall pick. If possible, the other two picks are also won by west coast teams.

As good as Bedard is I’ve listened to plenty of podcasts with scouts who say anyone expecting Crosby or McDavid will be “disappointed”. The consensus I’ve heard from scouts is Crosby lite which is probably setting some fan base somewhere up to be letdown which is unfortunate as that’s still going to be a likely future hall of famer if he stays healthy. The size is the only thing which concerns me

Do you think it's a case where people are just looking too hard to find something wrong to be a contrarian? It seems that happens pretty frequently whenever there is a consensus pick.

I gathered that impression too. But still, why have yet another highly skilled talent in the Metro? Even if his ceiling is more Stamkos versus Crosby. That's how I see it?
