I just realized....KokoMiami has almost caught up to the golden boy Seth Jarvis and TT in points on the year.

I bet we would've all been ecstatic if someone told us before the season that JK might outscore Jarvis & TT this season.

Let's face it, since I've been watching the Canes (~2000 or so), we've not had a tough guy worth a shit until Ferland came along....

This is worth more than just 1 like. I'd really love another Ferland (who could stay in the lineup more often). I would go to bed happy at night to dream of him playing on our squad against the Rongos and Bears.

Kotkaniemi has 14 points in his past 21 games. 11 points 5v5 which leads the team (tied with Jordan Staal) and is the same as Jarvis (5) and TT (6) combined. Dare I say that Kotkaniemi has also had flashes of looking,... pretty good? Actually using his size and range with some confidence to move the puck around.

What I am saying that that Kotkaniemi is Tage Thompson as soon as next year.

It's completely possible KK becomes a 50-60 point power forward. If he does then man the front office will look like geniuses but right now his contract is still pretty silly.

My real point though is I see no scenario where we get good value back in a trade. He's the kind of asset which is far more valuable to the team he's on than to anyone else right now.

The "good value" may just be a better utilization of the cap space. Being able to use $5M on someone who is scoring at a $5M value (or better) during a cup run is a lot of value, even if the trade itself seems like a loss.

Yes, but there's zero need to dump Kotkaniemi when the buyout is so cheap.

I understand "taking a loss" on a trade, but there's a lot of "Carolina needs to add a first to dump him" comments on the trade board that fail to understand the buyout terms if it came to that.

Yeah, I agree that that type of loss is not required to move him.

I was excited when we acquired Stephen Peat but of course he never played for us. His life has become a really sad story ever since, too.

Was legitimately excited for Darcy Hordichuk, as well, but he wouldn’t sign.

It's funny because so many want to dump KK to the first bidder and Jarvis is untouchable even in a Meier deal

Jarvis beat KK's goal/point career highs in his rookie season. I think most people think that Jarvis has higher upside, especially from a offensive production standpoint. Meier is the type of player you hope Jarvis can become, but I think he is tough to give up because he is more cost controlled, and I wouldn't be shocked if he is putting up 30/30 as soon as next year.
