I've said this a few times already and still sticking to it.

You want to wake up Kreider?
Put him in a role where he's forced to perform.

Give him a shot as #2 center ;)

You all realize that until the end of time, there are going to be conspiracy theories since the guy dropped our ball and we won the lottery?

so our ball was as heavy as a puck. Who cares? the NHL needs revenue so here is there chance!!!

I want Eichel at all and any cost.

At the expense of someone who for the next 3 years will be 9+ million dollars cheaper and perhaps just as productive?

Guys I get it, behind Zibanejad there isn't a ton of depth down the middle but center depth is crazyyyyyy overrated.

Does anyone think that the Pens don't win 3 cups if Crosby and Malkin are wingers? Hawks won 2 of their 3 cups with Towes and basically nothing behind him down the middle.

Deep talented teams win. You aren't going to build a deep and talented team by paying all of your top guys 10+ mill (look at Toronto)

Agreed. The only team I could see doing it would be Florida since they want to shed dollars, but Barkov is due a big raise at the same time as Zib. So that's a pretty big downside for the Rangers.

Make the pick. See what you can do to address other needs with some of the other young assets and picks we have.

Put Laf with Mika, and Kreider with Chytil. Move Buch for a young LD. Kakko moves next to Panarin and Strome, re-sign Fast and put him with Mika and Laf, and maybe Kravtsov can win the spot next to Chytil, with whom he's shown good chemistry with in the past. Lemieux, Howden and Gauthier make up the fourth line.

I think because these players are famous we forget we’re talking about teenagers who literally are on the threshold of a dream they’ve worked for most of their lives.

I was more thinking about how it’s crazy to interview anyone and ask them questions as if it’s set in stone, this is where they’re going.

Not that I really think anything else will happen, your murmurings not withstanding. It’s just silly they do this. They did it with Hughes last year too.

Even though Kreider is also a LW I don't think this automatically makes him trade bait. They kept him because of what he brings to the team as a whole, not just on the ice. Not to mention I kind of doubt Laf will just be thrown out there on a top line day 1. He keeps giving the team more flexibility and options while providing some vet leadership and a role model of sorts to the younger players ( it was reported that many of them look to him as a guide for preparing for the season, etc)

I don't think this makes him expendable at all. The Rangers accelerated their rebuild and signing Kreider was part of that and he's going to be around for a bit as they try to integrate Laf and find ways to shore up the C and LD

Which im cool with. Keep Kreider, and put Laf on the 3rd line. Have 3 scoring lines and 1 rugged grinding line.

But if we want a top 6 center now, its gotta be trading deangelo, geo, prospects, and so on.

If we are to trade this pick, i want Eichel or Barkov. Otherwise if OTT comes calling. Its their 3rd, 5th, and Braanstrom

We have a left wing log jam.

not sure about that. Maybe take money back if anything in Staal or Smith. But if lafreniere becomes as good as eichel is the risk for them. Not to mention he’s a franchise center.

Meaningless.

You are talking 3 years of Laf on a rookie deal. That is massive, massive value. Eichel is a $10M player.

This is a capped league with the cap potentially going down, even. No f***ing way am I trading him for a $10M player unless the other team is eating half the contract.

don't get me wrong I'm thrilled we got Lafreniere, but I can't help but think the league is rigging this thing. Last year it was us and Blackhawks who jumped up big (two big market teams) and now this year we get the 1st overall.
To be fair, in prior years Winnipeg jumped up a lot to get Laine and Carolina jumped up a lot to get Svech. No reason for the league to help those teams.
