Freaking out on the Ranger boards about those 2. They got gifted a 2nd and 1rst overall pick and both are underwhelming thank God.

The hockey gods have been.... just.... in this matter.

The team as a whole is mediocre, but man, Sorokin is a top talent. He might be able to drag this team to the playoffs himself.

We better hope so.

Coming into the season, I had 7 of our wins being pegged squarely on his shoulders, meaning he'd shut down the opponents basically on his own.

The game was blocked out in my region due to the ESPN+ package deal with the local cable guru.

Of the 9+ minute long highlights at NHL.tv, it looks like the win was primarily due to Sorokin. Offensively, I suppose it's pretty important that Palmieri and Bailey got off the schneid.

Going in yesterday, it felt like this game was going to be a slight turnaround tilt. Big win for sure, but unfortunately the next opponent is already tomorrow night - and it's Carolina. We never beat these guys.

Same here. It seems like I lost track of how many times a Ranger danced through the defense untouched.

I’m not familiar with your situation. But the game was on TNT not ESPN+.

Yep, regardless of what channel games are shown on in North America, be it TSN, ESPN+, TNT, NBC, Sportsnet, local stations, etc., ALL NHL games shown in Germany are done so via the contracted subsidiary cable program(s) of ESPN+, a contract that just began last season. Here it's primarily something called MagentaTV. In Sweden and Finland, it's CMore.

Thus, whatever game the local broadcast channels are showing (brokered by ESPN+), it's blocked to NHL.TV, which is how I (pay to) see the games. NHL.tv has no word in the matter. Someone with an NHL.tv package can view all other games, just not the ones being broadcasted live via the television contract with ESPN+.

I can then watch the blocked out games on a replay 48 hours later and thereafter. At least, that's how it was last season.

Gotta test that this weekend, now that I think about it.

But apparently NYI vs NYR was the broadcasted game last night, so I was blocked from seeing it.

And I'm not ready to be paying for two services for the 5-10 Islander games that get blocked out every season.

Granted, they almost always show NYI vs NYR and NYI vs TOR. Lot of Rangers and Make Belief fans over here that they naturally want to cater to.

You’re gonna have problems finding the game tonight as well…

Because it’s tomorrow

Don’t look now but the Islanders are tied for the 6th best goal differential in the conference despite being ranked third last in said conference.

Solid win in typical Islanders fashion. Great goaltending, solid defense (for the most part), get out shot (but not outplayed) and opportunistic offense. Thought Nelson looked great even though he didn't make the score sheet. PK continues to be solid. Lots of good things. Hopefully they keep it rolling against a very good team tomorrow.

Did you miss the 1st period?
I watched the first period intently. Sorokin bailed out Pageau's mistakes time after time. Barzal also made a bad decision resulting in a 3 on 2 with his line gassed, but Pageau was way worse. It might have been his worst period as an Islander.

I think the Barzal/Bailey/Wahlstrom combo looked like an offensive threat at even strength. Oddly, them putting the team up by two pretty much finished their night. Talk about a reward.

Pageau’s passing has been dreadful this year.

Both Pageau and Nelson have been horrendous with puck control this year... passing and handling.

Both also looked to improve on the second half of the game. So hopefully, that might be a sign that things are starting to turn.

He was awful last year too. For what he makes, I would rather start developing Raty as the teams 3C and see if we can recoup some assets for JGP. I HATED giving up a first for him and always will, the production will never be there.

Actually I did miss the first. Sat on the JFK tarmac for over an hour waiting for a gate to open. How the biggest airport in the world doesn't have an open gate for a scheduled flight is beyond me.

At least last year Pageau had the excuse of coming off wrist surgery, then COVID.

Sorokin faced 16 high danger chances in the 1st. He was under siege and the only reason we weren’t losing 3-0 after 1. He was a brick wall all night long.

Whatever surgery Pageau had on his arm/wrist has definitely diminished his ability. Sad, as he was a fireplug when he first arrived.
