Still nice to hear him say that it would be necessary to roll up the sleeves! Its going to take a lot of work.

30 minutes in and no mention of a renovation to Chelsea Piers?

sorry - what does this have to do with JD or NYR?

is it an inside joke?

i do know that this June, because the MSG Training Center is being renovated,
NYR Prospect Camp will be at the Stamford CT Chelsea Piers

I would love to have heard Gorton's internal dialogue during the presser. Didn't get anything from his body language. JD inherited Pleau in St. Louis and replaced him after four years (though I think Pleau stepped down for personal reasons). He inherited Howson in Columbus and replaced him after four months.

To be clear, though, one of the main things JD was brought to Columbus to do was fire Howson and find his replacement. Different here.

Jeez, JD. Maybe see a doctor? Sounds like he can’t catch his breath. Seriously concerned.

With Sam Rosen getting up there in age does anyone else think a major reason they brought JD in is to help find his replacement? He has a lot of experience in the booth and you can't understate what it means to the organization to have a well respected voice of the Rangers for the next 20-25 years.

I would think that MSG the network would do that, not really JD the Pres of the NYR... he probably has enough to worry about with the team. Maybe Kenny Albert?

I never said that, I said I preferred a fresh, new outlook on the organization and how it was built. The big issue with the Sather era was how insular the organization was and how behind the times they always seemed to be how teams were built and how they played. JD had a good runs as President of STL and CBJ, but nothing there tells he going to push the Rangers to the next level based on what he has done. I hope it works out, but I have my doubts, is all.

Not like the blues are going to the finals or anything, no, definitely not....

ANd yes I know this was written before the blues won that series, but they had already made it to the 3rd round.

Columbus started with absolutely nothing. Getting anything done with that team in the time he did it is a huge acocmplishment

The answer is simple.

Kenny Albert

Howie Rose has pined for this job for years. Wonder of he would still be interested.

I heard nothing from JD today that makes me think he’d be remotely interested in pursuing EK.

How active do you expect to be in free agency, “I think it has to make sense, it does, if you are going to bring in an older free agent and give him a long-term contract when your team isn’t ready for it it’s not good for him or you. If you can find a way to look at players that are not that old and fit the needs you have and have the character you are looking for, that are not beat up physically, some are, some have been around the block and come in with a bad knee or bad back, you have to do a lot of that research and do something that makes a lot of sense and not get ahead of yourself. The league is a lot younger than it used to be and so I don’t think it takes quite as long as it used to to rebuild a franchise but you have to do the leg work and roll up your sleeves and find the right guys. An example would be Kravtsov, he came in, I think yesterday, and will be here the duration and will learn the language and I like that. He’s going to work with people that can work with conditioning, nutrition, there is a guy that seems pretty darn committed. That is the type of stuff you want.”

JD doesn't think the team is ready to win. He really believes in young players being the driving forces on the team. The young guys are playing at a younger age. They are the best players on their team. JD is big on analytics. Look at the aging curves . The prime years are 22-26. Peak is 25. It's a young man's league.

The Rangers missed the playoffs the past two seasons and likely will again in 2019-20. But with the No. 2 draft pick and one of two potential stars — Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko — on the way and youth, and competitive balance so prominent in the NHL, Davidson isn’t acting like this is a long-range rebuild.

"It can be done because of the youth that plays in this league now," Davidson said. "Obviously the sooner you win the better and that’s the goal, but you have to do it the right way to get there."
