When did that happen?

On the postgame.

The guy asked why he scratched Buchnevich. He started fumbling over his words, "I needed to get Kampfer in, blah, blah, blah."

Then the guy pushes back, "I asked you about Buchnevich"

*AV making it seem like he didn't initially understand the question the first time*

"I thought it was the right thing to do. The lines, blah, blah, blah."

A few things:

- A fast transition team seems to have been our identity for the past few years now, but I really feel like we've just lost that touch. If you go back to watching the Hawks game or even points of today, you would see the opponent quickly transition out from defense to offense, and score off a rush. Whereas with us, us trying to get the puck out feels so labored these days. We make passes side to side, try for a stretch pass into the neutral zone, of which many times it gets stopped. It's pretty frustrating and I wish I knew why this was the case. The only thing I've come to is that we don't have the best defensive system in place and/or we could really use a guy like Charlie McAvoy or Dougie Hamilton...

We're not a transition team.

We're a "throw pucks down the ice and hope a teammate catches one" team.
- On that last note, do you guys think we "over bit" on the puck moving/skating defensemen? Are we so hell bent on having good offense that we basically said "**** it" to any kind of traditional D? I'm genuinely asking, by the way. I guess it's because when I think about how we brought in Lindy Ruff (who coached an absolutely disgusting-but-in-a-good-way offensive Dallas team), the type of defensemen we've tried to bring in, and the type of style AV likes (I guess fast transition, speed, cycle, opportunistic?), it just screams a **** ton of offense. But I wonder if it's been at the sacrifice of our D. It certainly feels like day in and day out, our only defensemen is the goalie.

Our defense was just as bad when it was filled with guys who couldn't skate, so no. It's the system.

- However, what I find weird is how well we seemed to play last season.

What last season did you watch?

Our defense has been historically bad for three years.

- To further add to this, I've also mentioned this elsewhere, but I really feel like the mindset of this team has changed a lot. They used to "****IN DEFEND!!!" as Torts would so eloquently put

The system.

- To further add to this, it seems like our forecheck is completely non-existent at times.
The system.

Appreciate it. Out of market so don’t get the post game

I guess an optimistic person would look at the back-to-back as fair for us, considering 2 pts out of 4, one bad game, one pretty good game.

Screw this division. Why AV no Buch? but anyway, 5 days off here, come back gud pls

This is why I chose to not pursue this profession. I would slap the bastard.

I've been thinking about this recently. I've concluded that AV has just gone "all-in" on this roster's strengths. I refuse to believe that AV is oblivious, or that our roster is that bad.

Shattenkirk skated with him keeping him to the outside until he made his pass. Nieves and Skjei were both at the top of the near circle leaving Karlsson wide open on the far side.

Here's a screenshot:

Here's a Gif:

The only reason Karlsson is so wide open and the pass is able to even be made and get to him is because Skjei and Nieves aren't where they're supposed to be. How you can watch that and say it's on Shattenkirk completely boggles my mind.

Sure..He should've just held the guys hand, walked him to the net and put the puck in for him.
You see the plays he's made earlier in the game where just allows opposing fwds just wander where ever they want?
Is your man love really clouding your judgment to the point where you can't recognize what a disaster he is in his own end?
Dude stop lol

Kampfer wasn’t bad no. But neither was Smith last night (not terrible, doesn’t mean he was good). If not bad is what we’re going for, then we’ve got issues. Think this whole team needs a major change of tone. On paper they have talent, and Hank is playing extraordinarily well. Just need to realize that short term potential.

I love Skjei but the guy could egg Mike Richter's house and no one would bat an eye.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not in the first point, but I do agree with this. A lot of how we play is about winning foot races to wherever the puck might pop loose. I mention the transition thing not because that's how we actually play, but I think that's the perception of what this team is (or what we wish we could be). They used to, if I'm not mistaken, in the 2014-15 season, but since then things have gone down hill. How the Hawks played against us and even on the GWG by Vegas -- that reminds me of a lot how we used to play.

I agree, our D has been bad for the past few seasons now. However, I feel like the season we had last year (2016-17) versus what we saw in 2015-16/this season, was a lot better. I'm not saying it was absolutely amazing - no, that's not the case at all - but it felt like we at least had more consistent team support. Whereas now, everything just feels really random. As I also said in my initial post, I wish I could rewatch the games because I think knowing what I know now, would help.

He has been bad in his own end but he wasn't to blame for that goal at all. Skjei and Nieves were wandering around aimlessly and were completely at fault on that play.

What about this defense is playing to the strengths of the roster and the system? This defense, especially with McDonagh looking like a shell of himself still lacks skating ability as well as talent. I dont think thats the case at all TBH.

Skjei could cause an entire species to go extinct by accidentally engineering a deadly disease and nobody on HFNYR would notice.
