That team finished 2nd overall in the NHL, 1st in the Eastern Conference. 6 wins from a Cup.

And they were crap...because YOU say so...

They could have kept the core, and supplimented. Do the Gaborik trade. Add to the depth.

The overhaul didn't work. The inevitable further overhaul this summer won't work.

There is no plan.

I don't think they were crap. I just think they overachieved in the regular season and frankly got lucky. In the playoffs they barely beat the 8 and 7 seed and got embarrassed by the worst SC finalist since either Edmonton or Calgary. Anisimov is a nice player that I always liked but he's a 0.5 PPG player, not some missing link. Dubinsky was not a very good player at the end of his tenure here. Both guys were decent depth, but we have depth. We were the first team in the NHL to have 9 forwards in double digit goals. The problem is that we have no premier players, well until MSL who has been a dud so far sadly.

Wakeup "The Big 3"!

NYR Record since the St Louis trade
2 - 2 - 1

11 goals scored - 10 goals against

MSL 5 GP - 0 G - 1 A - 1 Pt - 0,2 PPG pace (before trade 62 GP - 29 G - 32 A - 61 P - 1,00 PPG)
Rash 5 GP - 1 G - 2 A - 3 Pts - 0,6 PPG pace (before trade 40 GP - 19 G - 10 A - 29 P - 0,725 PPG)
Beaver 5 GP - 0 G - 1 A - 1 Pt - 0,2 PPG pace (before trade 62 GP - 16 G - 28 A - 44 P - 0,71 PPG )
TOTAL 15 GP - 1 G - 4 A - 5 Pts - 0,33 PPG pace (before trade 164 GP - 64 G - 50 A - 134 Pts - 0,82 PPG)

The Big 3 need to step it up NOW and start producing or we can kiss the playoffs goodbye
Which might be a good thing if it meant Sather is gone ("retires"?)
These 3 good ole Canadian boy forwards have a caphit of over $20 M and of course make even more
They need accountability and a ****ing wakeup call to fathom the urgency
Or is the Country Club back for good?

Ryan Callahan near the end of his tenure was good for one thing - that was the net presence on the PP. He is no longer needed there with the high PP conversion rate without him. It's just asinine to cave into his NMC demands with a 6 mil cap hit, which would put his contract as easily the worst in the league with the likes of Stephen Weiss and David Clarkson.

But right, he bled blue for this team. Totally justifies blowing up the makeup of the team in the process.

Nash needs to wake up. I have faith MSL will get back to his old self. Richards is just Richards, you know what you will get with him.

I guess right now all that one can respond to this is to point to the results of the trade so far, both for us and Callahan. I'm not sure that it will continue this way, and at least on our side, I certainly hope not, but it seems foolish to see the way Callahan has played and claim he was only good for one thing or that keeping our captain rather than trading him and future picks for a high profile scorer is "blowing up the makeup of the team." In fact, I'd go so far as to say trading one's captain midway through the season, not for futures, and not replacing him internally pretty much defines blowing up the makeup of a team.

IMO, every comment in this paragraph rangers from somewhat incorrect to wildly inaccurate.

Except that the financial terms of the contract that had been seemingly agreed to by both parties wouldn't have blown up the makeup of the team at all, and the NMC has been proven time and time again to be far from ironclad.

Try showing how not having Callahan or that contract on the squad will improve the makeup of the team. Mind you, the Rangers record with Callahan in the lineup this season is better than their record without him. You want to talk about worst contracts in the league? Buckle up and enjoy the ride. History is going to repeat itself sooner than later.

And I find that to be an absurd thing to say, since you're discounting the incredibly obvious loss of one of, if not the, most important possession drivers on the team: Callahan.

What's with the sheep comment? I think the general board opinion toward Callahan is disgusting, and I think not retaining Callahan because of a no trade clause will be yet another in a MASSIVE line of mistakes. I think the vast majority of posters here have a flock mentality and form their opinions like sheep. If voicing that opinion makes me appear to be superior, so be it.

Everyone is in a position to be critical, ignore criticism and speak highly of themselves whether it's warranted or not. Everyone talks a little **** now and then. I think what stood out more than this sheep comment was when you spoke about how you always know better than everyone else and end up right in the end. Hey maybe you were just speaking truth. I don't always just accept the consensus and I also love discussing the online anonymous mentality b/c it's fascinating how people talk online. Not many talk this way in real life.So yes I bring up quirks a lot if that's what you mean by style. What's the point of coming here unless you're challenging opinions and debating even some of the things that everyone seems to accept.

I've given up on sports teams. I still watch them and get a lot of enjoyment from them. But I just prefer going out and playing them myself now. A lot of the disappointment and frustration I used to feel b/c of sports teams doesn't exist anymore. I won't even shell out the extra cash for DVR and a sports package with my cable. I'd rather watch online. Not contributing money or ratings that way. For once it would have been nice to see something just click with a team and watch it dominate. MSL can't score here after what like 5 goals and a few assists in 1 week beforehand? Someone pointed it out before how Nash, Richards and MSL immediately tanked as soon as they arrived seemingly. NY water must just be bad or something.

You do realize that unless you have a Nielsen box you're not contributing ratings anyway, right?

It's been five games. I know its tough to be patient down the stretch when the playoffs are on the line, but it's really not that surprising that the team is a little off after the Callahan trade. I'm sure they will eventually get their game together, and it would certainly help if Hank was Hank.

Their power play has been slipping of late. 2 for their last 14.

I mean the PP is operating at 20%, the highest in years (I believe since Jagr's first year). This was a large part with Callahan off the first unit.

If Callahan was still the team's best PP producer, then yeah, I'd be way more hesitant to let him go. The past few years, he's been one of the best net presence players on the PP, but he wasn't a fit with AV's system that has flourished in that area without him.

Except that the financial terms of the contract that had been seemingly agreed to by both parties wouldn't have blown up the makeup of the team at all, and the NMC has been proven time and time again to be far from ironclad.

A NMC totally handcuffs the team when he's a Drury-esque player in the final years of his mammoth contract. Only a drastic paycut in terms of caphit could justify such a contract.

Let's take a look at his average corsi numbers the past 3 yrs, heck even this year with nearly 60% offensive zone starts, his relative corsi was still rather mediocre. As mentioned before, there is no need for him on the PP anymore either, so you're ending up having to pay a declining asset with average play AND guarantee a NMC? Simply ridiculous.

Let's put it past those for a second. This is a guy who's made out of glass. A torn MCL, broken ankle, sprained thumb, shoulder injury, foot injury, broken left hand, knee injure have all been injuries endured by him. It's just not a worthy investment.

Team record doesn't mean much at all IMO, a lot of luck is involved. There was a time where I believe Ryan Stone of the Oilers in 2010 when he played the Oilers were 9-1-1 at one point. Heck, look at the Rangers record with Daniel Carcillo in the lineup this year.

Well I do agree with you, Sather will **** up somehow in free agency. Let's just hope it's for an asset that we can move in 3 yrs without facing many consequences.

If it was 2011 Callahan (before Chara slapshot), I would have zero problems giving him 6mil per over 6 yrs with a NMC.

But his game's gotten worse every year since.

It's okay. The things in that paragraph were debatable, at best. Calling them "somewhat incorrect to wildly inaccurate" is the only wildly inaccurate thing going on, but you can't really expect much else when it's tough to judge whether he's a bigger Callahan fan than Rangers fan. You'd think we traded Steve Yzerman himself the way some people have lamented Callahan.

Ive been tied up for a few days. Logged on to see MSL getting ripped already LOL:

Two quick things; while I really liked Kreider with Step & Nash, I saw some interesting signs with BR & MSL; it's an odd mix with Richards always 3 steps behind the play LOL; but he's also dangerous in those situations; the best attribute he has left is his shot; and if can capitalize off some of Kreider & St Louis' backing off defenses & their creativity, great;

on Marty, sheesh, he could go scoreless the next 3 weeks and I wouldnt say a bad word about him or the trade.

Being right on the cusp of being a dangerous team, the one thing the Rangers needed more of was a dynamic guy that can get hot in the playoffs, Nash is one; St Louis now another.

let this guy settle in; cause if he lights it up in April it can really make a difference.

Cool, I hope during his "settling in" period, this team isn't mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. PHI wins 1 of their 2 GIH, and DET wins both of their 2 GIH, just like that, we're on the outside looking in. Hell, Ottawa has 3 games in hand on us, if they win them all, however unlikely, they'd be tied with us in points.

Has it crossed AV's mind to use Nash on the LEFT side?

I understand our RW depth is good, but what about Moving him to the left, and maybe using his left handed shot on the left side? His "move" consists of getting the puck at the right side of the goal near the goal line, circling within the circle, and attempting to take a shot from the hash marks, and it never ****ing works, everyone has caught onto it.

The Rangers should have traded for another scorer at the trade deadline.

We need more underperformers on this team.

What a joke. Screw this team. Screw the GM. Screw the owners. Screw MSL. Screw Richards. Look forward to drafting a future career AHLer in the mid 1st round.

Shifting gears to the Mets, soon.

The Kings were terrible for a long period of time and just lost, then they forgot what losing was and just won everything.

Teams have ups and downs, admittedly this is a very inconvenient time for a down
