I love reading your analysis. Like Callahan is a "mediocre possession player." I truly feel bad for you.

You feel bad for me? You are so far gone when it comes to Callahan your opinion is completely worthless. You actually think he was the biggest reason after Lundqvist for our success all of these years. He was an excellent player that I loved but your ridiculous drama when it comes to Callahan really as I said makes your opinion worthless on the subject.

We'll still make the playoffs.... and Get eliminated just like every year...repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat...man we suck just the right amount to look good

Agree on everything.

Go back as little as 5 years, and the only 4 guys still on the roster are Lundqvist, Girardi, Boyle, McDonagh...think about that for a moment.

10-11: 7 guys
9-10: 4 guys

You forgot Staal, but your point is still accurate.

Within 5 years, Sather has completely overhauled the roster.

Instead of taking a roster that was 6 wins shy of a Cup, adding Kreider, Miller, and other pieces to the core and eventually adding a "missing piece" like St. Louis...Sather instead completely gutted and overhauled the roster within 2 seasons. Callahan, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Del Zotto, Gaborik, Prust. Huge parts of the team, gone. All of them with exception to Gaborik, players that wear their hearts on their sleeves and play with passion and guts.

I hate what Sather has done to this team.

That team had probably the easiest road to the cup in NHL history 8, 7, 6, 8 seed and made it only halfway, looking like **** along the way. They were frankly lucky they didn't lose in 6 to the Sens or Caps. That team wasn't winning **** anytime soon.

There was a lot of turnover in 2012-13 but a lot of the 2011-12 roster isn't that great anymore.

Gabby is a rental, Prust is banged up, Mitchell is Mitchell, Feds is out of the NHL, Rupp is even older and slower.

Only Dubi and Arty are still pretty consistent.

Yes don't forget giving up first and second round picks along the way.

This! LOL!

Nice Avatar btw. What a goal tonight eh?

I truly hope Callahan continues his success in Tampa, he deserves it.

Yep, our 2 best players from that team are nowhere near where they were then. People don't like to think anymore.

He did a great job of that this season and last...

So technically what he said about Callahan isn't that far off then, because his job isn't technically to be a good possession player, it's to help gain possession then.

Is that supposed to be sarcasm? Look at his metrics; he didn't do such a bad job of it this season, despite what the sheep around here would have you believe.

Hey, that's my feeling toward your opinion on most subjects here, so that's okay. I'm not the guy that tries to convince people that the greatest goaltender of his generation is overrated because he didn't play to his own absurdly high standards for a few months. I could see, though, how that sort of thinking, would lead one to **** all over another player because of a down half season. It's just a tad hypocritical to talk about how much you love the guy, and to keep bringing him up when he isn't even on the team anymore just to take strange potshosts at him, especially when they aren't accurate. At least you appear to have good taste in music.

really angry about the effort level.

theres a lot of things you CANT control in a hockey game. but effort isnt one of them.

2 games in a row now where the team pretty much didnt show up.

Yes I know Callahan can do no wrong. :shakehead

Guy was a bum this year. People are complaining about a lack of intensity, the guy would show intensity one game out of ten. Everyone remembers the Cally from years ago, it's completely inapplicable to this year.

I've said over and over that Lundqvist is the best goalie of the generation. That's why I'm so hard on him and I'm pissed off when he's playing like ****, like half of this season. I wasn't taking a potshot at Cally, I was saying that I don't understand how we became a worse possession team after the trade for a better possession player, that's all. Relax.

Callahan is never gonna score the amount of goals as Nash or MSL, he is gonna give you around 50 points in a season, kill penalties, play on the PP very effectively. Which btw, he ended Tampa's PPG drought with his net presence tonight. Callahan did everything on the ice, he led by example, and gave an effort every night. The last few games as a Ranger he had the trade rumors on his mind, he had been dealing with multiple injuries.

Callahan was a big part of the success of the Rangers over the last couple of years. He had 6 goals in 20 games in the 2011-12 playoffs. Scored 29 goals in that regular season. He scored 16 goals in a half season the year after. He was named Captain for a reason. If you don't think he was a big part of that success, then you are more blinded than your username suggests.

Taking over a game and putting a team on your back is not the same as showing intensity. Callahan could take over a game every once in a while seemingly will us a win, but to equate that with intensity is to view the entirety of the NHL as pretty apathetic.

Callahan will always be revered by a portion of the fanbase, despite playing pretty badly the last two seasons and never really doing anything in the playoffs. Heart and soul!!!!!

Yet 31 points in a half a season is bad. :shakehead

That's nice, he didn't do much this year. In fact last year his decline started. The guy got some adrenaline after playing for another team. Either that slows down or he's just been half-assing it here. He hasn't been an impact player this year at all.

He forms his opinions too often based on extreme emotion and bias and always seems to exaggerate good points so far that they become bad.

I gotta ask what's with the sheep comment? Every time I see you post you say something grandiose about yourself or degrading about everyone who doesn't share your opinion. I can't tell whether you're here to discuss hockey or make yourself seem superior based on hockey opinion. I think you might be messing around but it's like reading a WWE heel sometimes

Pretty much, shows glimpses of his old self every now and then. And lets not forget he turned down a lot of money to stay here, more than he's worth. Maybe he'll even have a good playoffs this year considering it's a contract year.

And I find that to be an absurd thing to say, since you're discounting the incredibly obvious loss of one of, if not the, most important possession drivers on the team: Callahan.

What's with the sheep comment? I think the general board opinion toward Callahan is disgusting, and I think not retaining Callahan because of a no trade clause will be yet another in a MASSIVE line of mistakes. I think the vast majority of posters here have a flock mentality and form their opinions like sheep. If voicing that opinion makes me appear to be superior, so be it.

That team finished 2nd overall in the NHL, 1st in the Eastern Conference. 6 wins from a Cup.

And they were crap...because YOU say so...

They could have kept the core, and supplimented. Do the Gaborik trade. Add to the depth.

The overhaul didn't work. The inevitable further overhaul this summer won't work.

There is no plan.

I've come to acceptance that there are more Ryan Callahan fans than New York Rangers fans.

Its hard to argue with some. Hockey is played on the ice. Not on a calculator and not on paper. The chemistry, relationships, personalities of a team are not measured by advanced stats. Some just don't get it.

Building a real hockey team isn't like building a Yahoo! fantasy team.
