The Rangers MUST play that speed game for a full 60 minutes. Kings had no answer for it, cost them two goals. If the Rangers can put that together (I think they will) I the there chances here.

No, they had an answer. Sutter changed the lines, stymied the middle, and we waned off our game and played theirs.

BIG MISTAKE!

Hank had 40 saves last night. Outplayed by Quick? Are you serious?

Yes, I am serious.

How many of those 40 saves were anything but routine?

The first two goals on Hank were very suspect.

On the other hand, Quick had no chance on the Poo shot and Voynov knocked the other one in his own net. Otherwise, he stopped multiple breakaways and point blank shots.

So, yes Quick outplayed Hank. As much as it hurts many fans to admit.

The win was there for the taking - too bad they couldn't finish.

Game 2 isn't a must win, but it really decides who will be under pressure afterwards. Down 0-2 and it's all on the Rangers, they'll have to win both home games. 1-1 and there's more pressure on LA.

They showed, that they can absolutely hang with the Kings, now win game 2 there!

Why do we have to dwell on this for an extra day? Thanks, NBC.

This one was even tougher to lose considering that the extra game they played, and the extra rest we had are not even remotely a factor anymore. (Though that seemed to be the case after the 1st.)

That first goal was a fluky bounce, no way he's stopping that. Stepan HAS to clear the zone on that play. Quick barely did anything in that game, hank got them to OT

Yes, Step gave it away so he takes some blame.
Staal had bad position, so he takes some blame.
But, Hank played that puck terribly. Absolutely no need to give up that much net on that angle. Just stand there and the puck hits you.

Quick did nothing? What?

So, WOW

I played NHL 14 Kings Rangers around 4pm yesterday. Kings won 3-2 in OT.

Then last night happened.

No idea what you're talking about. I would've liked Hank to have had the post a little faster on the first one, but that's an incredibly tough bang-bang play where the puck was behind the net, switched sides and came out front for a one-time flick, all in a split second. As for the Doughty goal, he was unchecked 10' from the net with a full second to pick his spot - he chose the gap between the body and the arm rather than a corner. Amazing shot by an amazing player. If McDonagh was in the same position, we'd be expecting him to score too.

Would I have loved for Hank to have stopped them? Sure. But, they would have been unbelievable saves. And he made plenty of other unbelievable saves during the game.

Also, did anyone get the bad feeling I did-- that this game reminded me a bit of our first game vs Boston last year? Lost 3-2 in OT even though Hank made 40+ saves. Underdog that let a great chance slip away.

exactly, and it happened rather quickly. I haven't seen a more devastating adjustment like that in a while.

We need to be able to counteract that on the fly or we are DONE in this series.

Hanks torso is not so tall that he will cover the height of the goal post when he's on his knees, which he damn well better be to get the blockers down.

The only way Hank is stopping that puck, is it he had kept his arm in a upright position above his shoulder where the puck traveles.

I hate it when Hank gives up bad goals, but no one is stopping that puck unless they are 7'9" tall

He HAS to stop the first goal. HAS to. But tbonec's comment takes the criticism too far. Quick was very very good so if Quick did outplay Lundqvist it's not an indictment of Lundqvist

I personally felt that the 2nd goal was more stoppable than the first. Doughty really didn't have a lot to shoot at and the puck actually hit off Lundqvist on the way in.

And with regards to Lundqvist, you can't ask much more of the guy. Yeah, I would have preferred he save the Doughty goal, but a defensive breakdown allowed him to walk in all alone. With so much net to shoot at, you can't blame Hank for letting it go through him. He was obviously expecting Doughty to try and pick a corner, and couldn't recover with the shot coming from so close in. He made some huge saves in the 3rd when he could barely even see the puck. The team in front of him needs to play better. We made a few egregious errors, and most of them ended up in the back of the net.

I get it, Hank has been a great player for the team, but I'm just tired of the excuses.

It is a goalie's job to stop the puck. On many occasions, like the OT goal, there is nothing a goalie can do. But, that was not the case with the first two goals. He is supposed to be our best player and the best goalie in the world.

Stopping perimeter shots is expected of every goalie in the NHL. That is what Hank saw for most of the third period...perimeter shots.

Quick saw many more point blank shots and made the saves.

It's not an indictment of Hanks career or his potential to play a great game. It is just stating that he was outplayed last night.

Actually, I do know what I'm talking about, but okay.

The most frustrating part is the game went according to script

-Rangers look good, get out to an early lead vs. a team coming off an emotional 7 game series
-tide begins to turn, resilient Kings team ties it and starts carrying play
-Lundqvist stands on his head in the 3rd to send it to OT

Infuriating the Rangers played into the narrative and faded down the stretch.

Nevesis, love you man.

Your undying blind faith and inability to just admit when Hank let's in poor goals is unwavering.

I think you stated that you played goal or help coach goalies? Maybe you are a good coach, but you are terrible at analyzing Hank's game.

Quick saw 3 shots in the 3rd period. 3.

This isnt about excuses for Lundqvist - its about you refusing to acknowledge the team in front of him ran out of steam.

40 saves. 20 for 20 in the 3rd. Zombie team in front of him for the last 50 mins of play.

But yea, lets talk about Lundqvist. You're out to lunch.

I agree. The Rangers were outplayed and out shot in the third. But, that doesn't mean that the Kings had great SCORING chances.

Even with being outplayed, Hags had a breakaway to end it and Quick made a great save.

Okay, so tell me about all of the amazing saves Hank made in the third. Which ones were anything more than routine? I'll wait.

Where's the poster who was trying to tell me that Diaz is better than Moore, and will be a Rangers top-4 defenseman next season?

Dude couldn't even get on the ice. Had to rotate 5 dmen and it gassed our guys.

Thank God Moore is coming back for Game 2. Klein plays exceptionally better with Moore as his partner also. I think they have good chemistry.

It was probably me. I am a big fan of Diaz, but he couldn't handle many of the minutes at all yesterday.
