I thought the Kings looked very good. They hit, crashed the net, were hard to knock off the puck and controlled the game late. All the reasons they were favored coming in. The Rangers on the other hand looked like crap after the first period. They completely lost their legs. Three of their best 6 players, didn't show up in Stepan, Nash and Girardi. That might have not made a difference vs. the previous three teams. Against this team, it will sink the team.

Girardi and Stepan were terrible in this game. Nash wasn't much better. Diaz isn't any good. J. Moore back will help a ton. His speed and size is much needed vs. L.A. You have to wonder if he could have made a difference in game 1.

One thing that stands out to me in this game is the incompetence of Stepan and Nash not knowing how to use Kreider's speed. Richards and St. Louis clearly have figured out how to use Hagelin's speed. The Zucc line have figured out how to use each others skill as has the Boyle line. However, those two dopes haven't figure out how to use Kreider's unreal speed. If they don't figure it out in this series, the Rangers are screwed.

Everybody talks about Richards being bought out. However, I really think Nash is a strong candidate in the off-season to be dealt. IMO, he's holding Kreider back. It's a shame Miller didn't have the light bulb go on this season. He's the type of guy with his speed and size that is made for the playoffs.

Richards is 34 years old and signed until he's 40 at 6.67 million per year. He's going to retire long before his contract is up and we're going to be hit with massive cap penalties. Nash is 29 and only signed for 4 more years. There is zero chance that Nash will be amnestied instead of Richards.

A lot of positives. And that's why I think it's so disheartening we lost. Our best players were our best (Lundqvist/McDonagh) and they got key contributions from depth players (Hagelin, Pouliot) while being fantastic on the penalty kill, and we still lost.

It's a tough one to swallow.

Nash, St. Louis, Richards, etc, all need to be that much better. Richards hasn't done anything since the first two rounds. Nash played okay against Montreal, but did nothing the first two rounds. St. Louis has scored some BIG goals, but even he has been inconsistent.

Look at the Kings. Gaborik, Kopitar, Carter, Doughty, Williams, etc, are their best players on a routine basis. Their best players are their best.

We cannot win this series with just Lundqvist/McDonagh playing at a high level. St. Louis, Richards and Nash all need to be huge factors. If they're not, we don't have a chance.

You thought Kopitar and Gaborik were among their best players?

I'm talking about Richards being bought out and Nash being traded. I've been sick of Nash going back to last years playoffs. Not based off of game 1.

I really think Miller is the perfect center with St. Louis and Hagelin. He just needs to fix his attitude.

Sorry I misread your post.

I don't see many takers for Nash and his contract. We might be stuck with him.

What Kreider has done is more because of himself and passes from the defenseman. Open your eyes. The concept of hitting Kreider in stride is completely loss on Stepan. Stepan wants to stop, hold onto the puck and pass it across the ice. He's really not a match for Kreider. Nash is just plain stupid. He tries that idiotic cut back move 3 or 4 times a game. It's not working Rick. Get a clue. Shoot the puck with Kreider crashing the net or in front.

I will try to pick up a few clues before the next game.

Hopefully you will continue to guide me. Without you I am lost.

You do realize that an awful lot of Hagelin's speed goals are initiated by himself and not his linemates. Maybe not.

After sleeping on the game, I am equal parts dejected, heartbroken, and also cautiously optimistic after last night's game.

We saw it again first-hand. When this team is skating and supporting each other up the ice through the neutral zone, they can skate with ANY team in the league. At the very least for periods one and two, the Rangers matched everything the Kings were throwing at them, and even took the game to the Kings. The physicality was there. The wingers were doing an awesome job supporting the centers in the faceoff circle.

Third period, just **** the bed there. Good on Hank for getting us to overtime.

Still a tough loss, but game 2 is far from unwinnable.

So is Girardi's flub an accurate description of "full Rongo"?

(Trying to understand what it means)

Forecheck disappeared in the second and third periods. The Rangers fell into a soft neutral zone trap kind of style and just simply never generated enough offense after that. I was worried about complacency and I truly believe that is what set in after getting a 2-0 lead. This team has been guilt of that far too often this year. It has to go away if they are going to hoist the cup.

The Rangers also stopped coming out of their zone as a five man unit. They started to rely on the long stretch pass and that's a recipe for turnovers and what happened on the game winner. When no one is around to support the last man back with the puck because they are all 50ft away looking for a pass, even a simple play like the one Girardi screwed up can be disastrous. Unfortunately it was.

I don't think a little dose of humble pie the Rangers were dealt last night is all that bad. 60 minutes like the first 20 is what it is going to take game after game to win the cup. We can't have a team that's happy scoring 2 goals and then sitting back. We need a team that wants to score 3 and 4 and keep scoring.

This game should have been put away after the 1st period. So many missed opportunities.

Anyway, we better show up for a full 60 minutes, not just the first 20 next game. LGR!

I think I'll survive being stuck with the guy who led our team in goals 2 seasons in a row

Those regular season goals don't mean **** when you consistently **** the bed in the playoffs. Rangers have gotten this far in spite of Nash

I usually don't put a must win on any game 1 in a series. However, I really felt this game 1 was crucial against the Kings. They blew it. Big time. I'm not that optimistic after game 1. I don't think the Kings are this incredible team. I do think that Stepan and Nash continue to not play like first line players. Can you really beat a very good team and win the cup when 2/3 of your top line play like a bunch of imbeciles who won't even shoot the puck? Doesn't seem likely.

2nd, 3rd and 4th lines are cup worthy for the Rangers. The first line is not. It's sure not Kreider's fault. That is why I'm thinking Stepan to the third line center spot next year for Richards. Miller to the wing. Rangers go out and acquire a better center for the first line.

However, I'm just going to think about game 2 right now. I'm not feeling very good about it thanks to our first line.

Girardi was beyond awful all night. SO. SLOW. The OT loser was the cherry on top.

I'm still beyond sad/pissed this morning. Going to be a long few days.

What a squandered opportunity. Not sure if we can bounce back this time, but I'll be hoping.

I also think people are vastly overrating Stralman. There were times in the first 3 playoffs series he was poor. He had a great game last night. He's not a guy I would pay a lot of money.

I still believe McIlrath needs to be on this team next year for a full season. I don't care if he has some flaws. He has a huge reach. He can skate well for a big man. He can punish forwards and clear the net. He'll get better and better as the year goes along. He's a righty shot. You can't pay Stralman 4 million a year. Not when you have guys like McIrath, Allen and Skjei in the wings waiting.

One thing that I'm really excited about is how Hagelin, J. Moore and Kreider have raised their games. Just wish Hank was 27 again. He's 32. The reality is that the Rangers are going to have to replace Stalman with a cheaper option on defense. Sather tried to sign him. Shame he didn't because if he did, he could have surely traded him for a good return in the off-season. People are getting too hyped up about Sralman because he had a great game last night. I thought he was awful at times vs. Montreal.

Wonder what L.A. will do with Regehr. He's obviously better than his replacement. However, do they risk screwing up the chemistry to put him back in? I would because they have let up a good amount of goals in the playoffs. If he plays like he can, that will only make it tougher to score on the Kings.

At the end of the day the Rangers lost because of two stupid and avoidable mistakes. Let's hope they can play more like today's first period in game 2. I don't know if jet lag affected them since they just stopped skating after the 2nd period, but either way, Lundqvist was still sharp and kept them in the game.

Zucc is allowed to be criticized. For a guy who led them in regular season scoring, he has been at least a slight disappointment.

I don't agree, I think he has been our best forward in the PO's over all 20 games. It didn't show on the scoreboard, but he was amazing in those last games against MTL for example.

Didn't really come through last night though...

The good news is that it was just one game. The Rangers showed that when they play their game, they can out play the mighty Kings.

Hags - the guy is playing the best hockey of his career.
McDonagh - rock solid.
ZuBrasPoo - solid game. Need to finish though.
Nash - effort was there, just no result.
Fourth line - Great
Krieds - sometimes leaves you wondering WTF is he thinking out there.
MSL - not a factor
Beav - too slow to be a factor. He can still play, but they have to buy him out.
Hank - Meh. Typical game where he is outplayed by the opposing goalie.
First goal was not played very well. Second one was also suspect. You can't leave that space under your arm open. Make the player hit a corner and tighten every thing else up. Most shots, if not all, in the third were routine.

Stralman- Pay that man his money!

Girardi - WTF! A puck bouncing is one thing, but you can't fall down and then panic. I didn't expect that from DG.

Not really panicking. LA is the best team we have faced yet, we all knew that going in. We played a good 1/2 of the game and then tried to resort to sitting back in the neutral zone, which is a huge no-no against the Kings. You have to stay aggressive or they will eat you up. Learn from your mistakes, make some adjustments, and move on to Game 2.
