There's no way this team gets 1OA. They've picked 1OA once in their history. It isn't in the Rangers DNA. Even if we finish last, we'll get shafted and drop to the lowest possible position in the draft... assuming they haven't traded the pick away for Joe Thornton or somebody.
If we trade our first or second before the draft id go crazy

The Russian factor? He played last season in the USHL, and he's playing in Barrie this year. There's no Russian factor at play here. Dahlin is just simply the better prospect.

Russian factor is 100% there if teams fear he prefers the KHL over the AHL... Russian Factor is entirely Irrational fear based..

Rick Nash is a perfect representation of what is wrong with this franchise. A massive lack of killer instinct and just does not have what it takes to get over the hump.

And Rick Nash is also one of the few forwards on this team who has actually looked like a good player so far. Keep blaming the guys who actually show up instead of the useless ones such as Jimmy Vesey.

Brendl, McIlrath, and Jessiman were the opposite of safe picks. We've never made safe picks in the top 10.

At the 99 draft, Brendl was most certainly not considered a project. McIlrath and Jessiman definitely were. I always hated those two picks.

I agree though that the Rangers first round pick history [ when they hadn’t already traded them away] has been pretty bad.

Furthermore, the Oilers are playing worse than us. That’s why I’m leery of the tear it down approach in regard to trying to soak up draft picks.

I do think progressively tearing down the team to change culture / style is needed.

There's blame to go around, but how much should really be on at a 2nd year player who probably just isn't anything more than a 3rd liner at best? Outside of his penalty I though Vesey actually had a good game; its not his fault AV plays him far too much...

The Oilers have the best player in the league. I would trade our team for theirs in a heartbeat.

I would not tank for Dahlin unless they plan for a long term tank.

To build that "dream dynasty" you still need the elite pivot.

For example, think of the difference between the overall success of the Penguins vs the Senators.

I’m not saying that they shouldn’t draft Dahlen is we won the lottery, but I don’t think he’s the player carrying the team by just pairing him with McD.

Your mincing my words.

I’m not saying I wouldn’t want McDavid. I’m saying after all those picks over the years, they were still doing so bad that they were able to take McDavid, and right now, the Oilers are off to a shittier start than RangersTown™.

My point is people point to when it works and throw out the multitude of times it doesn’t.

For example, the Penguins had tremendous luck being able to draft Malkin and Crosby. If they only had one of them, would they still have been a dominant team? Yes way more with just Crosby.

But again they got lucky, I mean power ball lucky twice back to back no less giving both players the same developmental window.
