Then he'll never put up 60 points unless he improves at even strength.

That's my point I guess. We shouldn't be expecting one ( a 60 point player) at this point. He could be one but don't bank on it I guess.

Stepan was far ahead of Zib at this point in his career as a points producer and if you looked at Derek Stepan shooting and skating with the puck at your local rink vs Zibanejad you'd be like WTF but that's just what it is.

You're arguing about 14-15 again. Like I just said, this has nothing to do with 14-15.
Ok so suddenly after two incredibly successful seasons its ENTIRELY the coaches fault?
The team has also gotten older, more beat up and not wrong to say the shit has run its course. I'm all for getting a new coach..The Right coach. Not just making a change for sake of changing or having to follow the analytical narrative. If that was the case Julien would have been a pure nightmare here.

Everyone wants to make this about the analytical narrative as if being bottom 3 in shot differential is working for us.

It is a problem when that is the only thing being discussed and the only thing that matters. the end all and be all and if you don't follow it to the tee you have no idea what you're watching or talking about. Just like comparing this team to the 98-04 teams. I don't care what the stat sheets say

Yep..not even being sarcastic...they had a legit better game today than most of their wins in the past month.

That's how AWFUL we've been for a good long while now.
Yes statistically i'm sure it looked amazing after we were down 4-1 early in the second and the game was over but the first period wasn't terrible tho.

Are you guys smoking what? No way in hell you can call a 7-2 loss against your biggest rivals better than a win. Analytics are just tools, you shouldn't fall in love with tools.

Remember AV was hired when we HAD to fire [i.e. "were no longer Tort's kinda guys] Torts because FIRE RENNEY turned out to be not the only thing that needed to be done.
Where can i place my bet on the coach lasting no more than 1-2 years in the fans eyes especially if he doesn't live up to the analytics.

It is the end all be all. It's not a "stat sheet." It's happening on the ice and you're either good on the ice or you're not.

Case in point

"I'm all for a new coach. Just make sure it ain't one of them math nerds. I'd like to keep giving up 35 shots every night."

I still think it's nuts that people don't see that it is not just the coach or 1 player or one management staff guy. It's a combination. Like the one from the restaurant that gave me indigestion last night. A toxic combo

One of the best players in the league at denying zone entries is in the pressbox and hasn’t been efficient at the one thing he does well that makes him a legitimate top 4 dman. So did Smith just suck this season or did he fall in line with the rest of the team and follow coaches orders to not pressure opponents entering our zone?

Based on the data we have, from Corey Szjnader, Smith is the best on the team at breaking up plays at the blueline. So while that doesn't take into account the entire league, he's still the best on the team.

How much of that 'giving up 35 shots' is strategy and adjustment based versus personnel and team based. Don't forget they brought in Lindy Ruff to handle the defense whose noted as a 'defensive specialist'.

I remember flipping out when we fired torts. Miss him.

I didn't like Torts because I didn't like how he neutered offense, but I'd rather not score than watch this team get absolutely emasculated every night.

Over the last month+, 30 teams in the NHL are capable of dominating the Rangers. Feels awesome.
