Yes everyone knows about the vaccine. Thinking that it's going to stop the incoming disaster we have coming for this winter is naive (at best).

It will be the spring when this is rolled out at scale. At that point you could 500k dead.

If you think we're making it through the winter without restrictions, you've got a tough time coming. You can make cute jokes about your least favorite politicians till you're blue in the face, and it's not gonna make a difference.

I am ok with the Restaurants and bars shutting down at a curfew and can accept that if it’s for the greater good. But I am totally against the gathering in your house limited to 10 people. It’s my home and I pay taxes no one can tell me who is allowed in my house or not but me. We have between 15-20 people for the holidays. Guess we will be in violation. Lol.

It's recommended guidance. There's nothing binding about it, and the people who have issued recommendations at the state level have said as much.

The reason bars and restaurants aren't shut down (though everyone knows the freight train is full speed ahead for it) is because states are broke, and the federal govt gave up. There's no plan, no strategy, and no funding at the federal level. It's a total failure.

We'll just let it go until drastic measures are needed all over again.

Even if it’s just recommended or a mandate it would be very hard to enforce. I mean can you imagine local police knocking on people’s doors on thanksgiving? “Good evening, we just need to do a head count” That’s when you gotta hide some relatives in the attic lol.

Speaking of the vaccine.. I'm very interested to see how many regular folks line up on day 1 that it's available. Number of friends I've spoken with have said they would wait a minimum of 6 months before getting it to see if any side effects arise .

I wouldn’t get it right away. Front line workers and the more vulnerable snd older folks should have the opportunity to take it first if they choose.

It’s a recommendation. It’s a health recommendation.

in the same way it’s recommend you don’t smoke. Police don’t come to check on you.

"Regular folks" won't even have the chance to get it for many months anyway so its not like they'll have a choice.

We had this going on during our lockdown. Friend of mine had the police knocking on his door around 11pm because someone reported loud music and so they assume he had people over (at the time we were under 'no visitors' policy as well as a curfew).

I think in 10-15 years we’ll look at the Federal Response to COVID the way we look at the Iraq War and all agree it was awful.

I also think COVID is a bridge to the “next world.” A lot of jobs aren’t coming back, but I don’t think our politicians understand, or care about, the situation we’re in. It requires a bold, FDR-like response, and I just don’t see it happening with our current political class.

Yup. Docs across the world first, then it has to be followed by nurses, right? Then sick/elderly? Then regular availability....

Oh, and the vaccine has to be completed first.

I work in live entertainment, so trust me I do not want to sound utterly pessimistic, but man, it is going to be a while before we get vaccinated and return to normal.

My apartment complex has started to shutdown the public spaces due to covid concerns. Arcade, gym, basketball, and billards all closed for the next week for "deep cleaning"

I'm fine with that. Even if I had the option, I wouldn't have wanted to get the vaccine right away regardless. I'm still worried about any potential side effects of it.
I totally agree with you...and I'm in the at risk group by age and history of respiratory problems.

I was reading an article that brought up a very interesting point: is this "vaccine" going to be like the flu vaccine where you have to get a shot every year?

Maybe, but for different reasons. The Influenza virus mutates every year so your innoculation doesn't work the next season. Coronaviruses generally don't mutate very much so the SARS-CoV-2 virus will be the same a year from now, except that it's possible your antibododies will have faded away by then/

I.E. same virus, but your body stops fighting it. And actually, we don't know how long these antibodies will last. It's possible we need a shot every 4 months forever, or it's possible we don't need on ever again. It all remains to be seen

Thanks for the clarification.

Anyone know where you might be able to score some vintage Rangers/NHL/even regular hockey apparel/shirts in the NYC area? I'd think the NHL store would only have newer Adida's stuff. I'm looking for old CCM (you know with the block lettering) Reebok (crazy to think is 'vintage' now).

Cosby's maybe? I'm not even sure they're open, Google search says they are 'temporarily closed'. Or some mom and pop shop?
Check out Sports Fever in Brooklyn. I went there a while back and they had those 1980s style Mets pullover jerseys, so they may have some vintage Rangers jerseys too.

It requires a bold, FDR-like response, and I just don’t see it happening with our current political class.

FDR prolonged the depression. The only thing that saved the US was the ramp-up to WW2, where we became the allies production facility.

"In fact, there was even less work on average during the New Deal than before FDR took office. Total hours worked per adult, including government employees, were 18% below their 1929 level between 1930-32, but were 23% lower on average during the New Deal (1933-39). Private hours worked were even lower after FDR took office, averaging 27% below their 1929 level, compared to 18% lower between in 1930-32."

The New Deal set pricing and limited competition, both of which, any economist will tell you, is a disaster.

And worst of all, FDR stole power away from the states and individuals, and handed it to the federal government, to unforgiveable and unrepairable levels.

Actually started to hear some rumblings as to when my company will be returning to the office. Targeting a 3 day / 2 day rotating system starting after memorial day if the staff agrees to the the vaccine. I've really grown to enjoy working from home and not having to walk 20 minutes each way or ride the train and pay $135 for the monthly metro card each month so I'm not looking forward to it but it is what it is i guess.

we're close to peaking at the worst conditions. But first vaccines likely start Monday, and it's only going to keep getting better starting around January

Curious to see how many bars around MSG survive this shutdown.

Stout, Tracks, Molly Wee, Barlney Stone, Mustang Harrys, American Whiskey, Local, Kabooze, and Felie all survived the first one. Lets see what happens now.
