New to Baseball (Questions, etc)

If you catch the ball in the crowd, do you keep it?

I watch a lot of Cricket and usually you have to give it back.

You can keep anything you catch (bat/ball). But when a baseball bat is caught, they confiscate it from you and you could either pick it up later or sometimes they'll just give you something instead just to get if off of your hands so you don't use it as a weapon.

Some of the balls that were part of a milestone could get you some big bucks from the player who hit it. For example, the fan who caught A-Rod's 500th home run sold it at auction for $103,579.

When you catch it, make you catch it with you bare hands. Who the hell catches it with a glove/mitt?

I have a friend from college (he never went to a baseball game) who asked me if I want to go with him to a Cyclones game this upcoming season. After saying I'm down, he asked me if I'm going to bring a glove.

Pretty much only little kids bring gloves.

There was this guy maybe 5-6 years ago sitting behind my brother and I at a Sox game all by himself with his glove and a Yankees flag. He'd yell at the players by 1st name, and was just super obnoxious all around.

After maybe the 6th inning he up and left the section. I joked with some guys sitting behind us "he's probably lived here his whole life".

Really? While it does sound lame, you see young grown men with mitts on telly all the time.

If I was sitting really, really close, I'd bring a glove just for self defense. I wouldn't bring a glove to try to get a ball.

I did get a foul ball back when I was younger at an independent league game. I still know where it is, too.

Since I put a new custom user title, I have to ask a question, and here it is:

I was looking at the Diamondbacks website, and notice that there's a second DSL team for a minor league affiliate. The question is; when did the Diamondbacks acquire a second DSL team?

They only had 1 last year, so if they added a second it would have been over the off-season. If a second team is completely new or if they're replacing another team I don't know, but there are 8 MLB teams that hosted multiple teams in the DSL last year. The Pirates used to before they decided to swap it for a domestic rookie team (Bristol Pirates) instead a couple years ago...that's where the extent of my DSL knowledge ends.

Percentage-wise, they are probably in a very, very small minority.

It's a minority, but it's not as small of one as you may think.

I haven't brought a glove to a game since I was about 6, but if I sat closer to the field than I typically do...nope, still couldn't do it. Mostly because I don't have a glove anymore.

The absurd thing is seeing grown-ass men with gloves in the upper deck of Dodger Stadium.

I would only bring a glove if I was sitting behind a dugout. That's when you have basically no time to react and I won't say need a glove but would like one for some protection.
