Kinda curious that they are requesting HC interviews without a GM on board and making these choices. Maybe they are just making requests, but this needs to be the new GM who does the HC hiring. They need to be a symbiotic pair, not forced upon each other like we've done in the past.
They seem to be operating with a President in the role of conventional GM. The GM here will probably just be a super scout in charge of the scouting and player side, working along with the HC. The President will be above both and make overarching decisions.

Maye is Howell 2.0

Maye just didnt lose all his weapons on offense his senior year. Same build, same strengths and weaknesses iMO
Love you Randy, but this seems a soft or lazy take.

Maye:
6’4
235lbs
4.60 40dash
21 yrs old

Howell:
6’1”
220lbs
4.95 40dash
23 yrs old.

One is physically like the other? That’s just to start?

We haven’t gotten into the whole “reading the defense and play quickly” thing yet, either.

And I DO LIKE Sam!

don't like posting in another teams forum but i've been a Washington fan from Toronto for the last roughly 50 yrs

just wanted to ask if anyone's interested in seeing what we can get offered to trade down and still be able to take either Fashanu or Alt ?

I know drafting a potential stud QB is always the sexy move but getting him busted up before you put a team around him doesn't lead you anywhere and i believe Howell can be a good QB with a quality o/l protecting him .

That’s definitely an option but I’m firmly in the QB camp unless the new regime either loves Howell (unlikely) or dislikes Maye\Daniels etc.

Re: Ben Johnson as DCHC.

I am thinking “a big NO dawg”, from me, if the smoke around him wanting 15m a year are accurate. That would make him what, top 5 in NFL?

For a 37yr old assistant coach? He honestly thinks he should get top 5 overall?

Hey Ben! How about you….oh I don’t know….actually PROVE some shit first? Before wanting to get paid like the likes of Pete Carroll, Andy Reid, Mike Tomlin, and Sean McVay? (Not to mention Belichick!).

This guy is already a Prima Donna, if true. No thanks.

Or likes someone in the 2nd tier (Penix, McCarthy, Nix, Travis etc etc) as much, and can get later.

I’m of the opinion that it’s not my money and I don’t care how much his salary is if he’s worth it. He has Jared Goff and Sam LaPorta looking like vintage Brady and Gronk. I’m not going to shed tears over a few extra million out of the pockets of dudes worth 10+ figures.

I'm a Flyers fan and I barely get spit upon here. It's a mild drizzle of spit instead of a torrent. Stick around!

If they bail on the top QBs then they had better be right, oh god.

You are more than welcome to post here if you’re a Washington football fan. We have a poster here (@Beef Invictus) who for some reason is a Philadelphia Flyers and WFT fan, probably because he likes pain and hates happiness. He posts here about football just as much as the rest of us and then we banish him to the underworld when it comes to hockey talk.

I think they should explore whatever options they can but ultimately this is a QB league and you either have one or you don’t. If they have a chance to get a stud QB they have to do it unless the trade offer is too good to be true.

I heard Brian Mitchell call the QB position "the most important in sports, yet also the most reliant on others." Which is a good way to put it. You need a QB and he needs support. One without the other is going to have a hard time. Finding the QB sure seems to be the hardest part, so passing on one is a massive risk

I forgot who I was listening to today, but they said Washington had to pay a "redskins tax" where we have to give to much power and control to people just to sniff working with Dan.

Will be nice to have a owner these top prospects WANT to work with

Here's the thing - you can always draft a quarterback next year and there are five high end guys who are expected to be first round picks, plus there's always a couple of guys who rise to prominence.

Personally, I'd love to see them build the trenches, but if the Commanders can land some linebackers and good offensive linemen in free agency, then I'm good with using a first on a quarterback and then using the rest of the rings to fill out the trenches. For me, if Jonah Williams, Damien Lewis, Isaiah Simmons and Kenneth Murray were to become Commanders, that would be a great start in filling out the trenches. I'd also love to add a wide receiver like Tee Higgins as well, but he's going to have a lot of suitors.

OL looks particularly weak with this coming free agency class. Feels like easier to plug in some holes on the defensive side of the ball easier in free agency.

I know others have mention but still finding it really bizarre how in the RR era and other than Davis always cheaped it out on the LB side.

Going with a 2nd round or later QB prospect seems like a worse gamble. Rather just keep Howell and rebuild the lines. The more I contemplate it is really just hard to imagine the new regime passing on one of the top 3 QBs.

Bolded is why it really feels like they will not pass on a QB.

Trubiski was brutal as an NFL player and Howell was up and down this year tho certainly better than Trubiski. Maye is that much better than both of them?
Mitch Trubisky was brutally mismanaged by Chicago. They have a history of doing such...look at Fields. I think given the right coaching and time he could have been a little bit more than just a game manager. A stud, probably not, but serviceable, absolutely. Sam Howell had a pretty good rookie season. Had the wheels not come off the rest of the team it probably could have been even better. I'll attach a Peyton Manning first year comparison for shits and giggles...and lots of these beloved guys have had similar starts to their careers. So on to the question, how much better is Maye? Drake Maye is significantly better than Sam Howell in every way imaginable. He's Josh Allen with some Mahomes creativity/magic sprinkled on top.
