One former coach during Snyder's tenure described his process as "chaotic." Sometimes he'd ask questions, the source said, but other times he would simply tell staffers to "get it done."

In 2022, Snyder pushed the front office to finalize a deal for quarterback Carson Wentz. Multiple team sources said that pressure resulted in them overpaying for Wentz -- sending two third-round picks to the Indianapolis Colts for a player Indy no longer wanted.

Before the 2019 draft, multiple sources said Snyder pushed for his scouts to move Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins from the third round to the first round on their draft board. When Haskins was available at No. 15, Snyder told them to "take the quarterback."

lol

"Jay Gruden, who coached under Snyder from 2014-2019, said Snyder often passed along his wishes through team president Bruce Allen, who would relay it to the football staff. He said it often led to the coaches and front office not being in accord on players.

Gruden said there were times Snyder and Allen would pursue and sign free agents with little regard to how they fit Washington's scheme.

It was a difficult way to build sustained success and contrasts with how sources say Harris has operated with his other te ams."
Nice in-depth ESPN article.

I get the idea of having the new QB and new offensive HC together in the same system for a while, but I just want a quality coach, no matter what his background. We've had so many clowns for so many years.
Am I a doofus or should this not matter?

Like, okay, we flip the script and there's a new QB and a new offensive HC, but there's still also a new DC too... does that put the whole defense at the same disadvantage? What even is the disadvantage? Doesn't a "defensive HC" just operate more hands-on in the defensive end and hire another coordinator he oversees to do the offense? That's also an offensive HC required to field a defense, otherwise known as the other half of the game. Like, he hand selects the body of work of another person either way and then lets that guy do what he does with his staff and make reports based on the type of team he wants so what's the significant difference?

It probably shouldn't really matter? If you're the head coach you can go build a rapport with players even if you don't call their plays, that's part of the job. One way or another a team is going to have stars that don't line up with a head coach's expert comfort zone if the coach is any good and stays for a while, so does it really matter who it is?

Seen enough Hard Knocks by now that it feels like good coaches matter more than the position of the coaches, because one side will always be "disadvantaged". Saleh and McDaniels for example, Saleh is a more defensive guy but he still pays attention and engages with his offense even if he's not making the decisions there without help. McDaniels goes and messes with his D instead because he's involved in the offense but needs to be a team leader. Seems to me like if you're bringing in a new franchise-level QB what you really need is a good QB coach and a good QB room because that's where that guy is more often than not.

Just pick the smartest comprehensive football guy and let him run the parts he wants to run. I don't give a shit if my HC wants to be the special teams coach if he hires good coordinators and makes good decisions.

Like, what did Ron Rivera actually do on the sideline this year? He had two fully operational coordinators calling respective plays most of the year, what was his actual job as head coach on gameday besides being the technical owner of the challenge flag?

Agreed with the sentiments expressed about getting the best coaches we can get. I have been leaning towards wanting an offensively inclined HC, but that may be partially the result of having trashy O under our defensively-inclined HC the last 4 years. But I've come around to the viewpoint of just wanting someone who has good ideas and a proven track record of success on whichever side of the ball their experience has been on. If we can meet Ben Johnson's asking price, great -- do that and bring in the best DC you can get to complement him. If it's McDonald, terrific, bring in the best OC you can get.

As long we get an honest-to-god GM who is empowered to build the staff according to a clear vision, Harris's track record suggests that he'll let that person and the rest of the football operation build the best coaching staff and identify the best football players. It appears he's into sports ownership because it's a business that he happens to love -- not a vanity toy that he needs to feed his ego.

Looks like it’s just NO that is the lynchpin. If NO wins, GB doesn’t matter. If NO loses, would be GB and LV both needing to win
Can’t believe our hopes rest on the shoulders of Derek f****ing Carr. What a ludicrous proposition, lol.

Get your rest, Burgundy Tank - tomorrow is showtime!

What a blunder by Harris if this is true…don’t want this guy.
just wouldn't fit harris model. Harris hires smart football people and gets out of the way. Hard to believe he would give Bill complete control here. And Bill with complete control hasn't done that well the last few years.

Last thing we need is him here.

Hard to tell what he'll do since he's taken nearly every conceivable route. With the 76ers he initially had a multi-year "process" that involved tanking via his GM, and then replaced some key FO staff when the league got tired of his shit. Recently he's replaced 76rs and Crystal Palace coaches with proven winners. But with the Devils they've gone with Ruff who has massive experience but no SC as a coach.
