For me really depends on the O-line play.
Yup. This is the big question. If Howell is given a little time in the pocket, he could grow into the position. If he's face-up or constantly running for his life, then he will fail. Even if he could have succeeded...

They just said on Sportscenter…..”Nick Bosa has never played a preseason game”……I’m not sure I’ve ever heard that before about anyone. Crazy…

It was curious why EB wasn't getting any other offers for head coaches so I started to do some more research. When EB was hired with Washington I was very happy. I wanted to see if he could replicate his success with KC here. At the time, many surmised that Eric was only successful because of Mahomes, and that EB did not have a hand in gameday preparations, so with a new start here we would know the full story as Rivera basically ceded all offensive control to EB and gave him full authority on that side of the ball.

During his hiring, many players like Terry approached him and said they desired an approach for tough love. EB was very chill with them and said in the official team video documentation and social media recordings of the conversation, "I appreciate it, when we can talk ball we can discuss more". And LeSean McCoy, former Chief, flipped out over EB and said he was overrated prompting KC players to defend their former OC.

During Keim's coverage of the OTA's he did notice that EB played a larger part than Washington camps in the past, and defensive players were complimentary like "it's a whole different vibe around here with him yelling". Keim wrote at least one ESPN piece and recorded a podcast about EB where he said that EB was tough but fair, and he wasn't always screaming or cussing at the players, if he did, it was because he had a high expectation and low tolerance for errors. Keim talks about the time Sam Howell made a mistake and EB didn't yell at him because Sam knew what he did, and as long as he understood that EB didn't feel the need to scream him out.

With all this crap dropping today about how EB is "too strict" for these young'uns it rubs me the wrong way, and if I was out on the field and some guy wouldn't get off my back I'd' flip out too, but I'm not a pro player. At the end of the day he is there to step your game up and take it to the next level. He has a high standard and expects you to play by t he same too, and if he doesn't, he's going to cusee you out. Again, this isn't Camp Gruden. Desean Jackson isn't here giving coach Gruden nipple twists lol. This is a new harsh camp. Tough love. Tough, but fair.

2.5 hours = most a coach can practice in pads, then they are allowed to only do 1.5 hours of walk through. With 90 min breaks in between the "two a day" practices

With the strict limited hours teams are allowed to practice in pads and activity limitations, you better get your ass on and off the field as fast as you f***ing can.

2.5 hours followed by a f***ing tea and biscuits party, then a 90 min shell walk through = the hardest a coach can push you

RR's comments seem to suggest the YOUNGER players are having problems with EB's intensity. In the past you'd expect that to come from the older veterans who just didn't want to be pushed or had injury concerns.

Are other teams having similar problems with young players, or is it just these guys? I don't want to generalize about it unnecessarily but RR did seem to suggest it's the way some "kids" are these days when they come out of college...a little bit....."soft".

And we wonder why the team folds in big moments. Welp?

It reminds me of when Norv Turner used to cancel practice when it was raining because he didn't want to risk injuries, then the team would routinely go out and get curb stomped in rainy games.

You play the way you practice. Any player who wants softer practices, will play soft. Its not rocket science.

Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest, your last sentence. We’re living in a coddled society. I could relay the “harsh” conditions I practiced under when I was a “kid”.

The question I want answered is why Ron aired the team’s dirty laundry in a press conference. What good could come out of telling reporters that some of his players are having problems with his new, hand-picked offensive coordinator? Now if the offense has a rough patch there will be narratives like the offense just isn’t responding to EB’s style or EB lost the locker room. It seems like a rookie error that could lead to distractions from a coach who should know better.

He could have just said something like, “EB is a terrific coach who wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s intense and he cares deeply about the team, his players, and about winning. Certainly it’s been an adjustment going from a more mild-mannered coach in Scott Turner to a fiery coach like EB but his passion for the sport is part of why we wanted him in the first place. It’s always going to be a learning process when new voices enter the room but I’m excited to see the progress we’re making on that side of the ball.”

RR did it because that's how RR operates. If the offense fails it won't be his fault, it'll be Public Bienemy's fault.

My memory is failing me right now but didn't he do something similar before...throwing people under the bus?

Weird but I was thinking about exactly this just yesterday.

I vividly remember one day when I was probably single digits in age at baseball practice and I was the catcher. As we all know early Spring in MD is basically still f***ing winter and it was bitter cold, crazy windy, drizzling, muddy, and there was a downpour the night before so the shitty old batters box and catcher/ump area were completely flooded.

It was absolutely miserable weather and I didn't want to suit up in wet catcher gear and sit in the wind and wet and cold in basically an ice bath. I told this to the coach and he called another kid over and said "you want to be the new catcher? He says he doesn't want to catch anymore." I was horrified. I told him I only wanted to play a different position that one day, not all the time. The coach told me if you want to play the position you have to do it on good days AND bad days.

That's a lesson I never forgot, but at the same time there's no chance kids today would even be allowed to practice in that mess.

Future HC vibes. Not a guy to be confused about being in an elimination game. He's gunnin for your job ron

Without them even taking a snap in a real game yet, I'm already hopeful he replaces RR as HC next year. Strange thing is, if EB really succeeds and Sam Howell and the offense develops as we hope, then RR might actually save his job. Strange conflict of desires there for me.

Totally….watch EB do well, RR is resigned and EB leaves for another HC job. That’s what the old regime would have done…

I do not understand this at all from Rivera... Name another coach that would have talked to the media in this manner about an assistant. I feels like he has heard the players, so deal with it in house.

Agree with this. I wonder if it's his clumsy attempt to actually praise EB and let everyone know "things are changing".

The temptation to ascribe Machiavellian guile to RR is strong because he does things that seem calculated for maximum benefit to him personally if things go wrong or right, but it's hard to afford that much attention to detail to someone who didn't even realize the playoff implications of the games he was coaching.

Which means the "riverboat" gambler label might be more accurate, making these comments nothing more than shit he spouted off the cuff, and any appearance of deep planning and strategy is purely coincidental.

I took it as a sort of "badge of honor" thing. "If you rookies arent complaining .. then I aint pushing them hard enough".

With that said .. I think media is trying to make a meal out of table scraps. What RR said was more throw away vs indictment or view behind the curtain. Feels like the media (Jason Reid) had their EB vs players articles pre-written and just waiting for any comment or incident to fire away.

It works. Click bait for the RR haters.

Hes not that bad guys. Hes a leader of men, accountable and the players respect him. Problem is he needs really good OC and DC bc he is not an X and Os guy so he needs to hit on those 2 positions. He/every franchise also needs a franchise Qb and until then, whether its RR or someone else .. results going to be capped.

LOL. Maybe if you are 30 and under, that *might* be the best moment?

I’d far rather the Daryl Grant pick/TD versus Dallas to reach our 2nd Super Bowl.

OR, the always iconic Riggins TD run in said Super Bowl to ice the game in the 4th quarter on 4th and 1.
